Saudi World Golf Tour 2022/2023 Thread

No idea if brooks is vaccinated but if he isn’t, this should be good motivation for him to do so.

Was watching some of the Hero from the Fairmont St. Andrews course this a.m. Beats the morning sports shows. Looks like a fun seaside layout, and there's 2 rounds remaining so check it out. Not sure why it's Mon-Thu, probably to avoid the same time as the women. Women are at Dumbarnie Links for the Scottish Open. I don't recall having seen that course before, so that should be worth checking out. They're at Carnastie the following week for the Open. Yay, more links golf viewing.

Dumbarnie just opened last year during Covid so it hasn't seen much action yet. Supposed to be very very good.

Zalatoris and Webb will be among the favorites this week.

Simpson is the favorite. He has a ridiculous record on this course. Something like 9 top 10 finishes in his last 11 starts. He won in 2011, and he has finished in the top 3 each of the last 3 times he played in this event. Zalatoris is the sixth choice in the betting odds (28 to 1). He needs to win to qualify for the Fed Ex playoffs (which is stupid as he would've accumulated way more Fed Ex Cup points to qualify, but he didn't get credit for his PGA results because Zalatoris didn't have his tour card). Lots of top players are skipping the event because the playoffs start next week.

FWIW, Bill Haas is in the field as well. He had his best finish in a long time in the Barracuda last week, but would need to win the Wyndham to make the top 125. Not sure if his past success on the tour qualifies him for the PGA tour for next season (which starts in 4 weeks) or if he will have lost his tour card after this event.

If I'm not mistaken, I think he still has his one-year exemption for winning the Fed Ex Cup. I don't think he has burned that yet.

Yeah I would be surprised to not see Webb hanging around the top of the leaderboard Sunday. With that said, I would love to see Zalatoris or Haas get a win.

Simpson named one of his daughters Wyndham Simpson. Not kidding

Haas should still have the one-time top-50 all-time money winners exemption. He may need to use it now because another year or two like his last three and he will drop out. Regardless, a top-200 finish will get him limited starts and he should have no trouble securing 7 sponsors' exemptions.

He won a decent chunk of that $ with one win, no?

I believe that counts, yes. But until 2018 he was a steady performer who racked up a bunch of top-10s and top-25s.

Looks like Bill will miss the cut this week. That means he may miss the top-200 this season after finishing 152, 140, and 209 in his prior 3 seasons. If he uses his one-time exemption, maybe a full-time season will get him back on track, because he had rarely fallen outside the top-35 since 2010. No doubt the accident had an impact, but golf is a crazy game.

Nice prediction so far of Webb owning this course.

Watched some today. Do like. The architect was on for part of the broadcast, and he did say they used bulldozers to create some contouring. So maybe it'll share that same bulldozer/or not controversy with Kingsbarns. I'm not a purist and prefer the contouring and would rather play Kingsbarns and Dumbarnie to say Gullane and Renaissance. That said, I'd love to play them all.

After a tough day "lowlighted" by a triple bogey, Webb pulls a chip for par out of his fandango on 18 to remain in the conversation for tomorrow. The gallery went nuts when he holed out; he's def The Wyndham's favorite son.

Henley hasn’t won on tour in more than 4 years. Didn’t like that he three putted 18. Will be restless night for him sitting on a 3 shot lead.

Webb’s triple was costly. Such a small margin for error really tough to win when giving away shots like that

Webb had a terrible day. Started out with birdies on 2 of the first 2 holes. Thought he was going to go 5 or 6 under again. He’s usually pretty accurate with his irons, but had problems today. Can’t believe the triple bogey. Hope he has a good day tomorrow and finishes near the top.
