Saudi World Golf Tour 2022/2023 Thread

So, let me get this straight:

- It's OK for LIV to invite and exclude whomever they want to play in their limited field no cut events
- PGAT is compelled to allow LIV players participate in whatever few PGAT events that those players elect to play in, even though those players are participating in a LIV venture that (as mentioned by mack above) seeks to harm, if not outright destroy the PGAT

Yes, what would Wyndham do without Matt Jones.... Fans will be angry.

Come on now, Pilchard. LIV and let LIV.

But of course LIV is not okay with that prospect. For the flat fees they have paid they must have required a minimum number of events (i.e., all events). That has been reported as well. Would they take Tiger or Rory for a one-off? Maybe. But only a select few if any, no doubt.

The point is missed. Why help a competitor to your business in any way. Why wouldnt the PGAT just want to crush this enterprise. Those that scream against socialism seem to believe the PGAT needs to share. Some kind of false kumbaya garbage. This is capitalism. It's fucking war. And I'm not saying who is going to win. Saudi can drop another billion and people will take it. But let's not get on this we can share fantasy. I'd say 10 billion could put the PGA out of business. Could happen.

We live among strangers. Elon Musk comes out and says two of his upstart competitors will go bankrupt. No one says a word. The PGAT makes moves to defend their interests and the same people start screaming restraint of trade. So The baby maker is a hero, but the PGA has no right to attempt to crush their competition. People really need to get their shit together.

Yes, in the modern world, businesses help their competitors all the time when it benefits them to do so.

The PGA Tour excludes people all of the time. They did that with Ken Green. They did that with folks who don't meet their qualification criteria. The PGA Tour is just plain dumb for doing so IMO. It makes the PGA Tour product weaker.

LIV, from the beginning, has said they do not want to destroy the PGA. They have said all along they want to be an addition to golf. It was only the Americans who are scared of folks of a particular nationality who made this an us v. them thing. Norman has said all along he wants free agency. Players can come and go as they see fit. I guarantee you if the PGA Tour welcomed Phil Mickelson to play in San Diego, and of course he's eligible and the fans there love him, this would not be a problem whatsoever with the LIV folks. It only enhances their product.

It also worth noting that the PGA Tour specifically announced no sponsor's exemptions for LIV folks. The PGA Tour knows their events, behind close doors, do not support the ban of their fan favorites.

They couldn't count on them not cracking this illegal anti-competition stance and so they had to put that in place to further harm their own events.

We interrupt this lively LIV debate to bring you a Wake alum update from the Scottish Open - both Zalatoris and Young will miss the cut. Now, back to the fun!

I thought you were talking about me! I'm at the Scottish Open too! Weather is great. Justin Harding played like crap today which made Brandel really happy.

Please. This is nonsense. The modern world. Where Amazon and Wal-Mart put thousands out of business. The helpers. This is an illigimate take. So GM helps Ford helps Tesla helps Volkswagon. What are you talking about. Maybe you need to define the modern world. Like modernity is not a factor in LIV.

Agree. The PGA wants to destroy LIV. My question is. Why shouldn't they?

PGA Tour = millions and millions every year for 50 years to charity

LIV = MBS' blood money to sportswash for Saudi Arabia regime

Yea, may the best man win.

Because more eyes and money in golf has always been considered good for golf. Only Bobby Jones stood against it. The PGA Tour got to be the best by giving away the most money.

Every tour and golf organization has always worked together. It's been great for all of them. Just like the auto industry and the tobacco industry are really happy that more folks drive gas guzzling cars and more folks smoke cigarettes. Working together in some things benefits competitors if it widens the customer base.

The PGA Tour never wanted another competitor of course. But their actions have now further strengthened that competitor.

How did the companies in these industries work together exactly? You know, help each other? I dont remember going to buy a Ford and the dealership saying "Noo, go try a Chevrolet. They need to sell cars too."

I mean of course auto manufacturers all want more people to buy cars and cigarette companies want more people smoking cigarettes. I am missing your point.

It's pretty amusing that if DR is in Scotland, which would be a bucket list trip for many people, he's keeping up his shitposting schtick on a college sports message board. I think I'd be getting in a twilight round or slugging Tennents with my buddies right now.

I do like Donald Ross world. Where we all try to help each other. I'm down for that.

Oh no. Just no. Well I'm out on thinking he might have any golf knowledge. I hope you golf well over there. Hit some good tee offs.

I’m a plaintiffs lawyer, a real estate guy, and a ticket guy. Folks competing in those industries help each other. It’s great for business.
