Men's Golf

In typical WFU fashion, the team currently has the second worse round of the whole field and has fallen out of the lead. Hope they can rally on the back side...

Wake is in second place after two rounds, one shot behind the leaders.

We are in the hunt but need Zalatoris to have a good final nine. I wonder if the injury is still affecting his play or possibly it limited his practicing.

Vanderbilt is running away from everyone. Four guys in the top 10 individually.

Wake finished in 2nd place, 10 shots back of Vandy and 6 shots ahead of 3rd place Kentucky.

That happens on deep squads. Pretty sure something similar happened to Haas last fall. And we know he is a great coach.

Lol what? Look what has become of what used to be the best golf program in the nation. We've had a solid year so far, but Haas is nowhere close to a "great coach".

I certainly realize the college golf landscape is very different, but it's not like Title IX is a new thing. OK St, Ga Tech, and others have lapped us in the last decade.

All state schools with much cheaper tuition to aid them in building depth.

Jerry's record merits criticism, but it doesn't mean we should overlook the disadvantage we have when competing against bigger state schools.

This year's team has depth finally, and is built for match play if we make it that far.

This argument does not hold water. Check out men's tennis very deep with five star recruits

Sarcasm meter alert. I am no JH fan, although he finally has got himself a strong team.

How many private schools have won the NCAA Championship since we last did in 86? I'll give you a hint - takes less than 5 fingers to count.

Is it just Stanford (twice, '94, '07) and Pepperdine ('97)?

Yes.

We finished 2nd to Pepperdine in 97, and had top 4 finishes in 03 and 05. We've had chances, which is more than most other private school programs have had. This is our best team since 02-03, maybe even the best since 86.

And add this to the mix, as every bit of depth that Coach Haas has will be tested this spring because of the inordinate amount of unusual injuries our guys have suffered. Zalatoris suffered a dislocated finger in Cabos and even though not serious, he is just now returning to the starting lineup. Sophomore Tanner Owen, a local product from Bishop McGuinness is out for the year with his wrist injury and will take a medical redshirt. Clancy Waugh was already redshirting so he is not an option. Now Haas will have Young, Womble & Zalatoris and put sophomore McBride & freshman Sterbinsky into the fray in the remaining 2 events before the ACC tourney at Old North State.

Young was -12 this past weekend. We finished at -31 as a team so a really good showing in the Schenkel, but Vandy was an incredible -19 on the final day to finish at -41. Tigerswood, you are talking about state schools, every one of them. Far different competitive landscape for them than for a private school competing with 4.5 schollies. Just like our baseball team with 11.7 trying to make them stretch to 25-30 on a squad. Tote the freight on some of this tuition and see which way most kids & parents will go!

They took the pipe in the third round of the Hooties today. No one was going to catch SC the way they played but they need to learn to finish.

Eh, when one of the best players in college golf (coming off injury) shoots a score that doesnt count, you probably aren't going to have a good day. Still have finished Top 3 in 7 of 9 events this year, with 3 wins.

Quick turnaround for the Irish Creek event this weekend, might see a bit of an altered lineup to give guys time for school/rest.
