One of my son's best friends runs this tournament at the TPC course along with the Myrtle Beach World Am in August, the Dustin Johnson World Junior and about 9 other tournies. They were a little surprised by this field and were hoping for some other ACC teams and others from the region so they would have some followers staying in the area for the weekend & for the tourney. Oh well, it is still a really good field!
 
Pretty steady performance, didn't have to count a round over par but nobody really caught fire. Illinois by contrast had 2 guys nearly match their best rounds of the year. Good start across the board really, but a very tight first round for sure.

Yep.
Ohio State had 2 birdies on the last hole to move into second place on their own. Moved us down a place.
Still, a decent first day.
 
Only one man over par. Young and Bae go low tomorrow and we create some space. Solid start.
 
Already underway today with the leading teams going off first. Good start so far.
 
tOSU is on fire this morning. 7 under through about 6 holes.

Welp, Wake not doing that. They T3 at -5 only two off the cut line with FSU in 5th at -3 and Oregon at 6th at -2. Need some birdies.
 
Looks like holes 5-8 are playing a little tougher than the first few holes. Everybody dropping back. Wake tied for 4th/5th.

Jesus, they are 4 under today pretty early in the round. It's not like we are spinning our wheels.

We really need to be concerned about Cal. Collin Morikawa is one of the top handful of amateurs in the world and hasn't gotten on track yet, and Cal is still in the top 5. He can go deep and rocket them right up the leaderboard.

We are in fine shape so far. This is a course our team knows really well, Cameron Young in particular plays it well, and we didn't have our typical first round fuck up to get behind the proverbial 8 ball.
 
Well the good news is with 2 guys @ +2 hopefully one of the 2 can step up their game and turn it around and provides a floor for our 4th score???

Gonna be a dogfight until the end. Wake in 4th at -4 with Cal and Oregon both tied at -3. I agree about Morikawa also. Hasn't gotten it going yet and is one of the best amateurs in the country.

Doing fine but it's a tough field. Fitzpatrick and Detmer need to get it in gear on the back.

This. Unless you get one or two guys going super low, in college golf it is all about your 4 and 5 - you need both to be solid to avoid placing too much pressure on the other guys...
 
Also worth noting: other than OSU, the teams tearing it up today (UNLV, Cal, Northwestern) all started on the back. Hopefully we can go low coming in.

Young bogies 7 and 9 and we are now in a 4 way tie for 4th with Oregon, FSU and Cal at -3. Not great, Clark!

Good news is that 12 looks like a birdie hole (333 yd par 4) and none of our guys have played it yet.

People are skiddish because we have underachieved in the post-season for many consecutive years.
