General Election Thread: Two Weeks Out

In some ways I am hoping it does. Just don't want it to swing the House. The Republican Party needs a good look in the mirror. Hillary is going to suck as president so all the republicans need to do is get their act together and follow the lead of guys like Paul Ryan. ,I'd get, election would be a republican windfall and the party could move forward without all the crazy baggage of the past ten years.

In Donald trump the republicans are giving crazy a chance. When it inevitably fails, the party can begin the heal. The question is how deep will the wounds be?

These phrases are all linked somehow I just can't put my finger on it..

Polls don't matter until August but Hillary is still well positioned to hit over 300 EVs. L

Latest poll from Pennsylvania (June 6-8):

http://www.publicpolicypolling.com/pdf/2015/PPP_Release_PA_60816.pdf

Clinton has 41% to 40% for Trump, with Gary Johnson at 6% and Jill Stein at 3%. In a head to head match up, Clinton and Trump tie at 44%. Similarly to what we found on the Florida poll we released yesterday, Republicans are more unified around Trump (79/8) than Democrats are around Clinton (75/15). That dynamic is what's making the state competitive.
Democrats lead a generic ballot question for President 45/41, which is pretty similar to Barack Obama's margin of victory in the state in 2012. Bernie Sanders has a substantial advantage over Trump, 45/36, with Johnson at 5% and Stein at 1%. In a head to head contest Sanders leads Trump 51/39.
Pennsylvania is a great microcosm of the issue Clinton faces in winning over Sanders fans. Among people who support Sanders in a head to head match up with Trump, only 72% support Clinton in the general. 10% would go to Trump, 6% to Stein, 4% to Johnson, and 9% are undecided. If Clinton could win over even just half of those Sanders supporting hold outs her lead over Trump would go from a tenuous 41-40 to a comfortable 47-40. Whether it's possible for her to do that time will tell.
“The biggest question in the Presidential race at this point is whether hesitant Bernie Sanders fans are going to get behind Hillary Clinton or not,” said Dean Debnam, President of Public Policy Polling. “In Pennsylvania if the answer to that
question is yes, Clinton will be a strong favorite in the state. If the answer to that question is no, the state will be a toss up.”

Best line from that PPP release:

But what might be the worst for Trump is we asked who people think is more qualified to be President- him or the Phillie Phanatic- and the Phanatic won out 46/40.

I still don't understand how some people think we are going to go from a situation where a state like Pennsylvania...which has voted Democratic in the last six elections....is somewhere between tied and +7 for the Democrats to a 20% Goldwater/McGovern debacle win for Hillary in November. Is she the favorite? Certainly...but this thing is far from over.

To follow up on Wrangor...why do people think Hillary, if elected, will "suck as a president"? You disagree with her views and think that she is going to fail to lead/implement?

I think Donald Trump will not make a good president because he is ill-informed about the problems in America, and specifically foreign policy issues. I am extremely concerned about the relationships that he will need to have with foreign dignitaries, leaders, etc, and feel like he could undo a lot of relationships that require a delicate touch to them at times.

Legit question/not trolling, but wasn't this the narrative following the 2012 election? That Republicans needed to look in the mirror, stop embracing the fringe, and start using common sense policies to appeal to a broader swath of the electorate? Other than Trump being a deranged, unstable narcissist, and thus a far cry from Romney, isn't it the same problem, just magnified?

Without question, Hillary sucks as a candidate and isn't the most open person. However, when she was a Senator, she seemed to get things done and many times worked across the aisle.

With the GOP losing the Senate and probably 10-20 seats in the House, will the GOP drop it's obstruction today, obstruction tomorrow, obstruction forever of the past eight years to help survive and bump the crazies who got them here out of the party.

What makes you think she will be successful. Her entire career is full of failure? She failed to pass healthcare reform as first lady. She was handed the NY senator position and did absolutely nothing with it (except vote for Iraq). She failed in her first run for president, losing to a junior senator. She failed as secretary state by any reasonable measure (Russian reset, Libya, Pakistan, etc...). She is barely going to hang on to win the Democratic primary against a self avowed socialist who isn't even a Democrat. Hillary is VERY experienced. But so is the 48 year old stripper who needs 2 bras to hold herself up. Experience is similar to practice. The old saying is that practice makes perfect....thats the dumbest thing I have ever heard. If you are practicing the wrong things you are just going to become very proficient at doing the wrong thing. Perfect practice makes perfect, and for experience, good experience makes a good leader. Her bad decisions outweigh her good decisions by a large margin. So when I say she is going to suck as president, I think that history is on my side. The reason she has to lie so much is because if she told the truth about her true experience, then she would un-electable.

I say all this hoping that she beats Donald Trump, and that should tell you a lot about what I think of him. Hillary is the 2nd worst presidential candidate of my voting lifetime. Her only saving grace is that she is going to be running against the worst candidate in Donald Trump. I would literally vote for anyone that has run in the past 20 years with GLEE over either of the two candidates that we have on the books. This is why I will be voting for Gary Johnson.

If it appears like it will be close when it's almost election time is everyone here going to pull their money from the market as well?

It's not that she's necessarily going to "suck" as president. It'll be a 4 year extension of the Obama administration, and she's more objectionable to Fox and Pubs than Obama is because of who she is, even though she's white. McConnell & Co. will be even more ardent about her being a 1 termer, so nothing will get passed, and both she and congress will be immensely unpopular in 4 years. Add to that she won't be able to magically solve the Middle East mess, and that'll be festering just as badly in another 4 years. Add to that her personality sucks - at least Obama has a good personality and sense of humor. I've thought all along that the next prez would be a 1 termer and still believe that. But although she won't be popular, she at least won't be the epic disaster that Drumpf or Sanders would be. And she'll make good judicial appointments - assuming any of them get confirmed.

No it isn't. In 2012 the sane people one and the crazies didn't get on board. In 2016 the crazies won, and the sane people aren't on board. There is a civil war right now in the Republican party, but the answer isn't for the sane conservatives to move even farther left, it is to reach the crazies and bring them to us. That is the better path for American in general. Moving left will simply give more and more power to the Democrats who will make decisions that will only enrage the crazies even more. So your solution is a good one, for Democrats. Middle of the road conservatives to stay right where they are, persevere, and look for opportunities to unite the party. Best way to do this might be for a crazy (Trump) to suffer an an embarrassing defeat on the national stage, thus opening the opportunity for sane republicans to make the case to the tea party, etc... that only by joining together will a conservative agenda be advanced. Paul Ryan is that kind of politician, but it remains to be seen what kind of opportunity he will get, and whether his voice will be heard. Right now you have to give Trump his wings, and hope he flies to close to the sun.

Your defiinition of good judges probably differs from mine, and that is pretty much the only redeemable characteristic you listed in your 'support' paragraph. I stand by my statement :).

Democratically will move to Hillary after Bernie bows out like Republicans moved to Trump. Undecideds will break toward Hillary. Barack, Michelle, Bill, and Elizabeth will rally turnout. This is the low point for Hillary and possibly a high point for Trump.

That article is all fluff. Her #1 accomplishment is a speech? Her role in killing Osama (Biden said she didn't have a part. Clinton says she did....)? Her management of the state department (this is quite possibly her biggest failure as a politician....).

What a miserable example of 'successes' for someone who has been handed the keys to power for the past 2 decades. You can almost fall into more good decisions than she has had.

Right, buddy, list me all of the pre-Presidential accomplishments of all of your favorite Presidents. Go ahead. Your "failures" are all broad sweeps/fluff. Here, you can read more fluff here, or you can keep making sweeping bullshit statements.

People think she will be a good President? Based on what?
