This is very sad, but the biggest surprise is that it hasn't happened more often. For the past several, years it's been open season on attacking gays as being perverts and dangerous.

In a nation of states trying to enact "religious freedom acts". HB2 and over two dozen states with codified discrimination against gays, why is anyone surprised?

This is horrible, but when state government after state government tells the crazies that gays are out to get you, your kids and steal your religious freedom, why is anyone surprised?
 
Damn, I'm all for a good anti-gun rant, but this seems like a reach.
