Conference Expansion: Stanford, California and SMU Join the ACC

This year the American was the #7 rated conference (out of 32), and the Missouri Valley was #10. Not sure that it really makes that much of a difference. Yes, the Shockers will play UCONN, Memphis and Cincy, but they also play ECU, Tulane and USF.

If Wichita State leaves this year, they forfeit the NCAA tourney revenue that they earned through their two game tourney appearance. IIRC, the MO Valley allows NCAA tourney teams to keep the lion share of the conference allocation. It will be 7 figures. Not insignificant.

Wichita State is an important reason the MVC was #10.

interesting how the whole reason the AAC was formed was so the Big East football schools could have a conference to themselves now they're bringing in a bball school.

The current Big East schools "left" to start their own conference, not the other way around.

Good add for the time being but who knows if Wichita will stay good if/when Marshall leaves

Yep. That the risk with adding a school based solely on the fact that they are a "hot" program. If Marshall leaves and Shockers become mediocre again, no one will GAF about a Cincy v. Wichita State match up; yet, they will have to split revenues with them. Also, until this add, all of the AAC program played football, which largely motivated the divide with the Big East (which has no FBS football programs).

Does Wichita State have a football program?

no football, American or otherwise

SIX varsity men's sports, total (baseball, basketball, cross country, golf, tennis, track & field)

the fact that they only have 6 sports makes the move make more sense (don't need to worry about soccer team flying to Connecticut for a conference game)

Pretty sure Navy is football-only so this makes sense to balance them out.

My inlaws moved to Wichita like 6 years ago and it's the worst place in the world. Pretty sure the football team was shut down after a Marshall-like plane crash in the 70's. There is still a stadium on campus and the new Presdient has talked about restarting the program.

Makes sense to move to the AAC. They can start as an FCS Independent but recruit knowing they'll be in the AAC in a few years.

Texas/OU to the SEC, everyone else gets split up between Pac12 and B1G. Then we're down to four power conferences and everyone's happy. Right?

Exclusive: Texas, Oklahoma reach out to SEC about joining conference

ACC better have their shit together and be ready to snag WVU when the realignment dance begins. I think the others are too far geographically to make much sense, although OK St would be a nice add and KU would be great for hoops.

Hoops makes no money unless the conferences secede from NCAA. This isn’t about competitive balance, it’s about money.

I don’t think any ACC expansion is happening unless ND wants to come in with another team.

Curious to see what the Big XII would do if they’re down to 8 teams. There is no move they could make to have a better shot at the CFP. They’re stuck with Cincy/Memphis, USF/UCF, or Houston/SMU.
