Conference Expansion: Stanford, California and SMU Join the ACC

Fox and ESPN may go to court to avoid paying for the Big XII's new G5 expansion teams.

. ESPN and Fox would argue that the move to expand and charge the TV networks more money does not reflect the spirit of the original deals, which were signed four years ago. The conference, of course, can fall back on its contracts, which spell out pro rata increases.

haha. Good luck with that, networks.

haha. Good luck with that, networks.

Depends on the terms of the contracts, but seems to me like the Networks have a strong case as they didn't sign up for UCF versus Cincy when they paid for the right to televise Big 12 football.

Gonna have to argue that Big 12 is acting in bad faith probably. Gonna be an uphill climb.

Over half of the ACC is non "state" schools:
Wake
Duke
Clemson
Cuse
Boston College
Louisville
Pitt
Miami
(Georgia Tech) - has the state name but it's a polytech school so it's a specialized school
(Notre Dame) - partial member

It's not just the State school thing or New Mexico, Wyoming and Idaho would be coveted. It's that the schools that are the candidates to join the Big 12 don't move the needle. The Big 12 is in trouble as Texas and Oklahoma could get an invite to any Power V conference, and adding Cincy and Houston or USF do nothing other than water down the quality of play in the conference. The Big 12 was already left out of the football playoff once, and sooner or later, the SEC is going to get two schools in when the Big 12 gets zero. Going to get ugly when that happens.

Rick Neuheisel made waves last week on College Sirius when he said that UCLA ought to be considered for the Big XII. Remember how people were shocked that A & M left for the SEC. He said the same could be said about UCLA being tired of USC and that the money could be better in the XII than in the Pac-12. KState apparently makes as much money in their Tier 3 media rights as UCLA does from the Pac 12 networks struggling attempt at a network they have to pay for. Just a long shot he says but something they ought to consider.

Big 12 commissioner Bob Bowlsby will conduct video conferences with 17 schools that have contacted the league about being considered as expansion candidates, sources told ESPN.

Sources also said it's "becoming less and less likely" that the league will expand to 14 teams. The most likely scenario is that the Big 12 will stay at 10 teams or only add two schools for a 12-team league with two six-team divisions, sources said.

......
The 17 schools that will make their presentations to the Big 12 include Cincinnati, Houston, BYU, South Florida, UCF, UConn, Memphis, Colorado State, Boise State, Tulane, Temple, East Carolina, SMU, New Mexico and Northern Illinois, sources said.

They should do what college admissions do and charge a hefty application fee to all, then select only two. And repeat when they decide to go to 14 later.

San Diego St. was identified as one.

And I can add so that means there's one remaining

Arkansas State & Air Force

18 candidates + Big XII = 28 desperate teams
