Role of the Media

bsf posts a ton of nonsense, but that article seemed like a pretty reasonable take.

It's a good article and a necessary critique of CNN. Not sure why Bob2 posted it though.

Tried to tell Numbers Snopes was a bunch of horseshit:

Posted this elsewhere too but curious to know what the media should do when Trump tells obvious lies:

If this is a serious question, reporters should call him out and challenge him on the facts. They should avoid calling him a liar. Pretty much all previous presidents have played loose with the truth, including Obama and W. It was extremely rare that presidents have been called liars by the main stream press regardless of the accuracy of what they said.

There is already a perception of bias and maintaining the appearance of objectivity is very important for the long term health of the press. They should use words like "factually incorrect" or "disputed" as opposed to lying.

Clinton lied. Bush lied. Obama lied. Trump lies. Just treat him the same as the others and call him out factually every time.

knowell, he's not the same as others.

I just read both articles. If you read them, you'd see why they don't contradict.

I think that knowell was talking about MSM reporters, not partisan congressmen. That's the problem here. The MSM media is no longer non-partisan. The good thing is that, judging from the recent election, voters are now aware of that situation.

Facts aren't partisan. If a political figure lies, media should call them out on it.

Sounds like the Trump administration has already started making their Nixonian enemies lists.

"Not one network person has been let go. Not one silly political analyst and pundit who talked smack all day long about Donald Trump has been let go. They’re on panels every Sunday, they are on cable news every day. Who is the first editorial writer, where is the first blogger that will be let go that embarrassed his or her outlets? We know all their names."
