It's going to be interesting to see if the Pubs can put humpty-dumpty back together again. About 40% of their party is all-in on Trump and Bannon who are openly at war with the Ryan-intellectual-country club side of the party. If this discord continues we may see intra-party rebellions and primary battles at the state level that will make the Tea Party look tame.

The theoretical musings about Ryan leading the current GOP out of the fever swamps are a loopy wet dream. Trump's net favorbility among both GOP primary voters and all 'Pubs is 20 points higher than Ryan's. Breitbart, not Fox, now owns the GOP base. Once Trump, Bannon, and Ailes monetize that base, Ryan, Kasich, Baker, Haley, Thune, Martinez, and Little Marco need not apply in 2020. Pence, Cruz, and Walker will have to move even harder right. Cotton may be the biggest beneficiary in the near term. Rabid support of 35% of America is hugely lucrative for corporate alt-right. Control of the White House and Senate isn't their end game as long as they can line their pockets. Rush needed Bubba, Michael Moore needed W, and Trump/Bannon/Ailes need Obama and Hillary.
