Ongoing Dem Debacle Thread: Commander will kill us all

Think that’s an Obama-Trump-Biden district, the one my wife and her family are from.

It's actually a Obama - Clinton - Biden district (narrowly), after the old gerrymandered maps were thrown out in 2018. A young female military vet ran in 2018, but the local party decided to throw their weight behind a super rich guy that promised to fund his own campaign.

I'm still pretty bitter about that.

What’s crazy is a lot of Dem politicians seem to be chasing that 5% but not that 17%. The right seems be trying for it with fake populism. If they could stay on message without letting the fascists take over, they could probably peel them away.

Democrats squander that 46% by not actually running on progressive values.

To start, 1 - we don’t know exactly how “progressive” and “conservative” are measured here, 2 - ideology is only 1 factor of many that influence election results, 3 - under our geographically distributed representative system, progressive voters importance is limited to metro centers.

Progressive economic values will never be championed in a 2 party system where moderate middle class swing voters hold all the political leverage. The parties have to be broken up for anything to change, and only their mutual destruction would allow that.

I have to admit that I got a laugh from the spoof of Sinema running from her constituents. As spoofs go, it's pretty accurate.

I’m guessing that’s taken from something given that it’s paparazzi and the fashion is a bit muted to be Sinema.

But it’s still funny. I could imagine something like that on SNL.

It's definitely a joke and is presented as such, but it is good for a laugh.

Gotta say, it’s not actually a racism problem for a Democrat analogizing support for socialism to support for the KKK. Yes India Walton is most definitely Black, but that’s obviously not what Jay Jacobs was criticizing when he made his stupid analogy. The only reason this is being portrayed as racism is because other Democrats would rather discuss racism within the party than discuss socialism within the party.

The gist of what Jacob’s said was “I won’t endorse Democrats whose views are extremely different than mine”. The *actual* offensive thing that he did was comparing socialism to anti-black terrorism.

That was his intent. Sure.

But I doubt he makes the KKK comp if she wasn’t Black. There’s a long history of falsely equating Black activism (not just socialism) and the KKK as two sides of the same coin.

Agree to disagree. White leftist activists opponents compare them fascists and racists all the time. I’m quite certain that conservatives on this board have made those analogies for ANTIFA - this is just another example of mainstream incrementalist moderates condemning all forms of what they consider political extremism. It’s no different than 2&2 comparing the January 6th rioters to the George Floyd protests.

$300bn looks like the number for climate spending, around $30bn a year. We spent approximately $20bn a year on fossil fuel subsidies.

In this administration we BeLiEvE sCiEnCe

Looks like Biden is trying to stop the games with Manchin and Sinema and get something done.

Only what they want to get done will get done. Nothing we didn’t know.

The future of the country and the party is being determined by two people with no political interest or projects, and with absolutely no commitment to the future of said country or party. Good system!

This entire political season is so asinine and contrived. Every single one of the predicaments was predicted to the letter months or years in advance. Critics of Manchin and Sinema made these very predictions before either of them even won their primaries. Their voters didn’t give a shit. Imagine the Titanic having the exact iceberg charted in its path before it ever set sail, and *still* running into it. That’s Biden’s term under this Congress. Fuck.

Would put money on Trump winning in 2024 but he’s the betting favorite. I hate this god awful party so much.
