Ongoing Dem Debacle Thread: Commander will kill us all

But aren't most community colleges about $1000 per semester? I don't think that's where the loans are going.

They are not going to community colleges currently. I am talking about creating cost controls going forward. If community college was free going forward, students would go there to test the waters on secondary education instead of expensive private or state 4-year schools. Plus, 4-year schools trying to compete for those same students, would have to lower their costs dramatically in order to attract students.

Btw, students loans also don’t only cover tuition. Lots of people take out “student” loans for living expenses while in school and not able to work full time.

Someone please explain student loan forgiveness to someone who has never gone into student debt of any kind. Think of the someone who graduated high school and either enlisted in the military or entered in the trades. Go.

Some explain capital gains tax rates to that same person. Go.

Just start holding votes on individual issues that get 70% support across the country. Democrats need to be able to point at wildly popular things and say we wanted you to have this, but this rep/sen didn't vote for it - why do they deserve your vote? They're not going to get any major package legislation passed and most people have no idea what are in the packages anyway. So get some easy wins and put real pressure on those holding up votes/bills. Problem is a lot of the Democrats are also holding up those issues.

We should test the concept of universal basic income with student loan payments. Give everyone whatever the average loan payment is every month, say 300 dollars. Your option can be pay off your student loans and if you have no loans do whatever you want with the money. Could also test the responsibility of we just want student loan forgiveness and let people do whatever they want with the money regardless of loans and see how many people really pay them.

People don't vote on these issues that poll well in the abstract. If they did Bernie would be President.

One of the problems is that people were sold a narrative of college graduates being better off. The people bought the narrative and accumulated large sums of debt.
The economy has left a lot of those graduates struggling since 2008.

But we have a record number of billionaires!

You know how the government spends trillions to have military operations all over the world and to drone strike weddings and school buses. Well….this is just like that but you don’t have to kill anyone and there is a greater social benefit.

One of my favorite things about Bernie Sanders is how when he was campaigning against other Liberals it wasn’t fair to consider Bernier the only sincere progressive candidate, yet here in the doldrums of a stalled, unpopular Democratic Presidency we still refer to Bernie as the representative of unviable progressivism. Bernie Sanders is basically the wild card of liberal arguments

what an incredibly reductive read of student debt
I wasn't referring specifically to student debt, but to the person who doesn't have and/or paid off their student debt i imagine it would feel very much like that.

Waste of energy and brain cells trying to argue here for collectivist ideology. There’s simply a disconnect where moderate Dems don’t understand that helping a group of people, even if you deem those people undeserving, might improve society as a whole. They can never get past the notion of giving something to someone who doesn’t deserve it.

oh i'm not arguing - just expected more from him than a verbatim conservative talking point.

If only there was a way to solve the student debt crisis by hiring more police officers
