Ongoing Dem Debacle Thread: Commander will kill us all

Lol my god. Mountain out of a mole hill. She has resigned for gods sake, which is the important detail here that conservatives seem to be intentionally missing. Yet here we have Angus grasping at straws to take any focus off of his guys Trump/Duncan Hunter/Jim Jeffries/Rob Porter/etc, and the moral disaster that is the GOP, whom he’s remained absolutely silent on. Keep up the honest posting, you wear it well.

MENSA scholars = someone who wouldn't be completely lost during the first 4 weeks of a Statistics 101 class.

Otherwise, is there anything more amusing that B-RAD claiming that "the Tunnels Left" doesn't express sufficient outrage over transgressions of any member of the Democratic party when he immediately goes to a poorly constructed gotcha regarding any criticism of Trump or the right.

Trump is really the perfect President for B-RAD. Full of projection and idiotic vigor.

Hill was irresponsible for sleeping with a cstaffer, but I don't think its fair to call her a predator without knowing more details about her interactions with that staffer. Regardless, the revenge porn is by far the worst thing that happened here, and has some far reaching implications given conservative media's role in this, and given that we have a president who is basically begging foreign countries to hack his opponents (that, no doubt, is what he has in mind when he asks Ukraine, et al, to "investigate" his opponents). Also-although this kind of got lost amidst everything else wrong with Trump-he did urge his Twitter followers to "check out sex tape" of someone during the 2016 campaign-(I think it was a former Miss USA contestant whom Hillary called out Trump for insulting).

Trump was banging porn stars and centerfolds while his wife was pregnant, and then subsequently tried to pay them off with campaign money.

The only evidence (photos/texts) of a relationship involving Katie Hill appears to be with the consent of and participation with her husband, which is how all of this came to light as he went nuclear on his ex.

Yet, Katie Hill's political career is over, and the self-absorbed egoist remains our President.

How can anyone take those facts and claim that there is some kind of public and/or media-imposed double-standard excusing Dem's/women's behavior?

Angus man stick to selling SAP you suck at this

The Republican Party is truly deplorable.

I’m sorry, that includes all y’all registered, principled, economically but not socially-type Republicans.

Deplorable.

The facts of this case make this clear cut revenge porn. There’s a statute and case law that you can read.

This isn’t typical “revenge porn.” This is evidence of a potential ethics violation by a congressperson who, had the accusation been made without evidence, would have assuredly denied it. The photo of Hill naked with the bong is gratuitous, but the one of her naked brushing the female staffer’s hair is evidentiary, and publishing it is protected speech.

Something tells me that if there had been a Trump pee tape that was released without his consent, y’all wouldn’t have been wailing and moaning about revenge porn, nor should you. Public officials with skeletons, active or past, are a national security risk, and speech revealing those skeletons is important and, often, a public service, precisely because it would not be released consensually.

If you don’t want your affairs to be a matter of public concern, don’t run for office.

How are pictures of her from before she became a congresswoman doing something that isn't an ethic violation evidence of an ethic violation?

How would a tape of women peeing on a bed while Trump watched be revenge porn?

Do you know what revenge porn is? A man sending around nudes of a woman who is divorcing him is revenge porn.

Good CNN article about this case, and the double standard to which female politicians, in particular, are held. Some quotes from the article:

"There's plenty to parse regarding the news about Hill. But one of the most important elements is this: Forgiveness, when it comes to the messiness of politics, is a privilege not evenly distributed. More specifically, it's disproportionately withheld from women and Democrats."

"Former Republican Sen. David Vitter of Louisiana? In 2007, he admitted to having been previously involved in a Washington prostitution ring while in office. In 2010, he was reelected to the Senate...Republican 2020 presidential candidate Mark Sanford? He completed his second term as the governor of South Carolina after he admitted in 2009 that he'd had a taxpayer-funded affair. In 2013, he once again ran for and won a seat in Congress....Physician and Republican Rep. Scott DesJarlais of Tennessee? A divorce trial transcript released in 2012 documented that he'd previously had multiple affairs with patients and had pressed one of them to have an abortion. (DesJarlais initially said that the incriminating phone conversation was recorded without his knowledge, though this contradicted the transcript.) He remains in Congress...Republican Rep. Duncan Hunter of California? In June of this year, a court filing alleged that, over years, he'd used campaign funds for extramarital affairs with lobbyists and congressional staffers. (Duncan has pleaded not guilty to these charges.) He, too, is still in office....And this is to say nothing of President Donald Trump, who has remained unscathed by the allegations that more than a dozen women have publicly leveled against him, ranging from unwelcome advances to sexual harassment and assault. (The President has repeatedly denied all such allegations.)"

"Even Democrat Al Franken, who resigned from his Senate seat in 2018 following allegations that he had touched women inappropriately, is attempting a bit of a comeback, having headlined Politicon last weekend....Put another way, men, particularly those of certain political persuasions, are often given redemption arcs, while women who dare to challenge norms -- such as Sandra Fluke, who in 2012 was slut-shamed after she testified before Congress in an effort to persuade Georgetown University to include birth control in its health care coverage -- are expected to buckle to biases and, ultimately, bow out."

"In addition to uneven standards -- and the fact that Democrats, at least in the post-Bill Clinton era, seem willing to hold their own accountable to a degree Republicans aren't -- there's something else that shouldn't be overlooked in the Katie Hill debacle: that she also appears to be the victim of revenge porn (which is illegal in both the District of Columbia and California)."

Yet Trump is still in office and living it up, while Hill's political career is over, at least for a long while. Strange how that works, isn't it?

How is it a security risk to publish pictures of a consensual, non-political relationship? The person who was in the pictures chose to be there and has no political ties. There is nothing about that relationship that could be construed as related to national security.

Hell, Katie Hill was completely open about her bisexuality. You can't blackmail anyone with something that isn't a problem.

This 100% revenge porn by Hill's soon to be ex. There's no rational way around it.

Nice try with your whataboutism. It is dishonest and has nothing to do with this event.

So send it to the Congressional Ethics Committee, don't sell it to some fucking conservative blog.

This was released by an angry, estranged husband during an ugly divorce; the only reason this dude cared about the ethics was to try and ruin his wife's life, which he succeeded, you know as an act of revenge but also probably to gain an advantage in some property dispute in the divorce. (Hope these people don't have kids and are fighting over custody.)

Not really. Her sins, which she admitted to, occurred as recently as this summer and were in Kodachrome. Pretty much everyone has to pay penance for something like that.

Not really what? Is there any evidence about her actions after she took office yet? She has resigned, which is more than Trump has done, and he's a walking national security risk every day. So it's going to be OK in the future for female politicians to be slut shamed by conservatives if they can convince or pay ex-husbands or boyfriends to release nude photos of them? That's going to be fun.
