Ongoing Dem Debacle Thread: Commander will kill us all

If we did it, this being America, we would figure out a way to exempt all the kids whose parents make more than $100,000 a year so the test prep would be fine. Nike and Adidas would probably find a way to get "amateur" sports teams grandfathered in as a form of "national service". Also, the whole thing will either be subcontracted to the private prison people or they will hire Lockheed Martin to design the program for a bazillion dollars, plus cost overruns and martini lunches.

true - but free labor from the underclass !

not just money

if you don't think that the moderate wing of the Democratic Party hasn't consolidated power and shaped elections to their benefit over the past several decades, then we're just not going to agree. here in Chicago and Illinois, it's particularly corrupt and bad, but plays out on the national level too. do you earnestly believe that the DNC didn't do it's damndest to get HRC nominated?

there are a lot of procedural moves by party leadership to control which candidates have a viable shot

money does matter a lot too

I think you’re giving them too much credit. I don’t think the party is that well organized at all. It’s basically been set up to serve Hillary and that’s it. I don’t think they have a grand plan. They just take money and support the least “risky” candidates.

at my local/state level, they are very well organized, though they operate outside the DNC

Well you’re in Chicago.

My area is a swing neighborhood of a swing city in a swing county in a swing region of a swing state and the neighborhood Democratic Club didn’t exist until January 2017. And it’s basically whoever wants to run it.

One reason Indivisible and Emily’s List etc has been successful is they’re actually organized and the official Dem party largely isn’t.

I guess, but it's not like the Republicans have any sort of national cohesive strategy or well-organized leadership. It's likewise a mix of Trump rubes, Never-Trump folks, Tea Party, evangelical Christians, libertarian-types, etc. all under the same tent hoping to push things in different directions. Similar to Hillary-Berine, the RNC tried to stop Trump.

And yet, here we are, with conservatives holding -- or about to hold -- the three branches of the federal government.

Kind of. They have a cohesive media and legislative strategy against the left but they don’t have control within the party. Democrats have neither a cohesive media or legislative strategy or control within the party.

a whole 1000 nationwide....nice but not huge.

lol. ok. Did i say it was huge? TBH, I have no idea what to compare it too for size comparison, but gaining roughly 3% of dues paying membership in 24 hours is pretty cool for a membership of ~35,000. If it is bigger than after Trump won, I can say that that is meaningful. In KC we had giant line out the door turnouts in the first or early meetings of the chapter after Trump won. But we were new and disorganized and couldn't keep those numbers. If we see a similar uptick in interest with more organized committees and leadership, that will be encouraging.

I guess ITC is trolling with the "fake socialists." :noidea:

Barbara Lee, a stalwart of the left, considering bid for House Democratic leadership

Rep. Barbara Lee (D-Calif.) has begun talking to fellow Democrats about running for chair of the House Democratic Conference, the leadership role held by Rep. Joseph Crowley (D-N.Y.).

“I was not seriously considering this until Tuesday night,” Lee said. “If this were not an open seat, I’d be making a different calculation. But things move fast around here, and I didn’t want to wait until November to start looking at this.”

Summer of Rage

Of course, the kind of fury that both the press and political Establishment in 2016 deemed so important, so American, was the fury of white men: angry at the diminishment of their status, angry at the ways in which the economy was not working for them as it once might have, but also angry at their fantasized sense of devaluation in a country that had elected one black president and was considering a woman for the job. And Sanders and Trump weren’t the only candidates who seemed to direct much of their messaging toward white men. Hillary Clinton picked a dull white man with a bad history on abortion rights as a running mate, in an effort to placate the white male voters everyone was so petrified of offending.

The handwringing over white men is what has kept newspapers publishing endless stories about Trump’s base and their unwavering devotion to him, all while ignoring the grassroots rage spreading through the majority: the young, often female, and often women of color candidates who’ve been streaming into American politics for the past year and a half, winning in special elections and Democratic primaries, sometimes — as on Tuesday, when Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez beat Joe Crowley in a New York City primary — toppling old, powerful favorites.

The Democrats are going full Venezuela. If only the United States could be more like Venezuela....that is the Democrats' wet dream. First step is to completely open the borders and do away with all border security.

They don't even pretend to be moderate anymore.

https://www.nationalreview.com/2018/06/democrats-done-pretending-to-be-moderate/

A poll last fall put support for socialism at 44 percent among Millennials, and even more disturbingly, 23 percent of this group agreed that Joseph Stalin is a “hero.” Socialized medicine, i.e., Medicare for all, is the hottest issue on the Left (unless you count hating Trump as an “issue”).

In short, Democrats are who we thought they were. They’re just losing their inhibitions about it. As the woke-youth site Vox puts it, “Maybe Democrats should stop being afraid of the left” because “Ocasio-Cortez’s victory is a big sign that Democrats can run on socialist ideas and win.” Talk of revolution flows naturally. After Justice Kennedy announced his retirement, MSNBC’s Chris Matthews said, “I tell you, the Democratic base is wired now for a revolt.”

Don't know where the few Democrat Moderates on the boards are going....but their party is leaving them.

DSA getting BKF too soil his diapers is pretty fun.

Maybe this will be a recruiting tool to more dems on the board. #joindsa

You've got it all wrong. I'm loving it. Recruit all the Democrats you can. This is 1972 redux. I was there for that gig. We carried Massachusetts & the District of Columbia.

You could literally take bsf posts from 4 years ago and show him arguing against himself. What a mentally weak person. No wonder he is so easily manipulated.
