Also have y'all ever been to the border? The high-trafficked parts are secure as fuck. Or they use drones and patrols in the desert hundreds of miles away and easily catch the people that try the dangerous crossing

At the same time there are students and workers, especially in the RGV, who cross everyday for normal business

Absolutely 100%. American foreign policy is completely driven by our corporate interests - we manipulate and sabotage foreign governments, we sow corruption in these countries inorder to capture their natural resources and control their industries. When those countries go to shit because all their wealth is being siphoned away, while a small few who are complicit with America become rich and powerful, we blame their problems on dictatorship or Islam or socialism and we sanction them to death and threaten to invade, all the while we propagandize all over the globe to encourage the remaining upper classes in those countries to revolt against populist anti-American governments

The fact that we talk in terms of “the border” tells you everything you need to know about this discourse. No one is asking for drones near Niagara Falls or to catch people coming down I-5 from Vancouver.
 
We have the complete opposite of an open border. We probably have one of the most violent, policed borders in the world.

I will say that it's impressive at how these caravans nearly always decide to make a run for the border during election time. We know this because Fox News is always all over it, just like they're all over those nefarious teachers and school officials trying to sneak some CRT into their classrooms during election time as well. Apparently the caravans and CRT folks are pretty quiet when there's not an election campaign going on though, because Fox rarely seems to cover that stuff otherwise.

But there are border agents up there too that take their jobs very seriously

Republicans really don't want those people entering the country. If any of those people are crossing the border, then the border is open.
