STOP SHAMING TRUMP SUPPORTERS

I always enjoy reading these posts that pop up from time to time wherein smug, pompous, self-righteous conservatives complain that smug, pompous, self-righteous liberals annoy them and just "don't get it", yet they never really explain how, if liberals somehow could not appear so smug and pompous to Trumpite conservatives, they might actually win them over or inspire so much hatred (which isn't going to happen.) I believe it was Breitbart which recently made the bizarre claim that smug liberal elitists are deliberately trying to kill conservatives by telling them to get vaccinated, knowing that since it's a smug liberal saying it that said conservatives will refuse to get vaccinated and die. If you're not getting vaccinated because you think liberals are smug and arrogant and so you won't give them the "satisfaction" of getting vaccinated, then I have a hunch that you have bigger problems than thinking liberals are looking down their nose at you.

One reason you know jhmd lives his life from a position of privilege is that he doesn't have to concern himself with what other people think. It's just an optional thing he does for shits and giggles, not an important information he needs to navigate the world.

Townie, I'm 19 minutes into that video. Do they unpack why unhappy precarious white people vote for politicians who don't have a plan to address their precarity and instead of vote for people who promise to punish immigrants, women, people in prisons, etc?

Finished it. They didn't.

I find it interesting that she said “There’s this illiberal desire to attribute peoples political motivations to something essential to their being that makes them irredeemable” but also seems to think Biden is irredeemable for the crime bill.

Just firing strays into the void again, doc? Weird attempt at a gotcha, but whatever.

The fact that you treat a basic observation as a "gotcha" supports the observation. This is just a game to you.

As a Black man, I have to understand the motivations and actions of white men to navigate society. But as a White man, you don't need to understand Black people or any historically marginalized group. It's purely optional.

I understand their point re shaming, but there is no alternative at this point (and probably never was). There's no reasoning with or convincing the vast majority. Kudos if you want to try, but it's not fucking happening on a broad scale.

And their bringing up cancel culture and virtue signaling is cringeworthy horseshoe stuff.

I don't know how what you're arguing relates to whether or not you guys should shame trump supporters, but I'll bite.

Let's accept your premise. My life is a magic carpet ride. Yours is a constant challenge of meeting the expectations of others. Assuming this is completely true and only this is true, in the words of the great statesperson, what difference, at this point, does it make? What do you propose to do with this information, now that we agree upon it? What policies shall we put forth to punish me for these historical forces? Reward you doubly for yours? Maybe it is policy changes you seek: do you find it healthy and productive to view our respective existences through this prism? Really? This makes things better? I'm all ears, what do you want done?

that's not essential to his being?

the problem is not the size of the sample

there are other ways to have bad data besides insufficient sample sizes -- the number of respondents is not an issue for what the poll is claiming -- can't speak to any other component of their methodology

This is a good post. In theory the only thing a larger sample size would do is reduce the variance estimates. If the survey questions are biased or the sampling frame is biased then increasing the sample won’t budge the probability estimates, you’d have to reword your questions or re target your samples.

I think a lot of trauma could have been/can still be avoided if you all didn't see out bias confirmation in artificial factors like polls and internet message boards.

How about you fuck off with this smug shit and present some alternative polling data for us to consider.
