UNC-G Basketball Game Thread

Yeah. We look like an NIT bubble team right now.

It's probably part of a package where we play there once or twice and they play us 5 times in Winston.

BUT IT'S GREENSBORO!!!!

If you want to argue that we shouldn't play them on the road, or if we should NEVER be close close to UNC-G then fine, I agree with you on those aspects, but the spread is what it was for a reason.
 
Pretty much this is what I saw:

-Man, college basketball refs have gotten uptight about defenders putting a hand on somebody playing defense. Too many ticky tack fouls called both ways. It was honestly boring, disrupting the flow of the game, and kept both teams from showing their true colors.
-Lil Chill didn't impress me tonight. He looked overmatched and confused.
-We struggled rebounding again, that will continue to be a major weakness for this team.
-Collins, Crawford, and Woods most score 15-20 each game for wake to have a serious chance to win.
-Moore is weak.
-Arians and Dinos have got to find a way to get on the boards hard to help out Collins.

I'm not really sure what to make of the team. They go through stretches of playing great defense, then seem to fall asleep, have lots of turnovers, yet still pull out the win. Onto X

I wanted to believe we were a NCAA bubble team, not NIT bubble team. Now I'm not even sure we look like a NIT bubble team. I will not at all be surprised if everything goes to shit once we start conference play.

huh? UVA played at their place this season. If I recall Duke did a few seasons back too.
 
Chill haters seem surprised Chill plays like a freshman.
 
We played very well for that stretch in the first half then checked out, hangin in mentally just enough to win.
 
Really concerned that we are getting no significant contributions from any of the new guys except Woods. Arians is slow on D and ineffective on the boards. He will struggle to get his shot off against ACC competition. Childress looks lost like a true freshman and plays terrible man to man defense. The other three freshmen will not contribute this year. Moore has made zero progress in the offseason. He continues to be out of place on both offense and defense. ACC play is going to be rough.

Overcame the jinx of the banked three pointer...

Not that anyone has to be happy about it, but road games like this happen. It's basketball, not football. Greensboro hit some bullshit shots and a few possession fell their way. We got tight, played like ass for a while... They played some inspired ball. But it's still a win. Like NC State beating Loyola Chicago by 2, Syracuse being in a 5 point game with North Florida with a minute left, or Louisville going to OT with Old Dominion - shit happens all the time.

Crawford with one turnover and one made three while shooting 50% from the field for 17 points... Ultimate test of a player being "due" to make one since he was 0% from deep for the first 39 minutes and 53 seconds of the game... Gotta love that as a coach. Run a double screen and hope for a switch to get a Crawford mismatch, get the mismatch just like you wanted - but instead of driving their big man at the 3 point line with a guard defending our 4 for a put-back (and Crawford was shooting 70% inside the arc), he just drills one from NBA range. Ridiculous.

Arians, Dinos, McClinton, and whoever else plays forward for this team cannot all combine for 5 rebounds and hope to win games. Piss poor effort on the boards tonight. Tying them in overall boards is a joke and 100% lack of effort.
 
Was that the best last shot we could get, definitely not. Is there anyone else on our team that should have the ball in their hands for the last shot, not unless Woods has an open shot, there is not.

Seriously, if we can't drive an hour to Greensboro and play in a basically empty stadium and win, we should just shut the program down. The fact is if we were a good team (i.e. top 25) we'd have more of our fans there than they would. Playing there had zero impact on us almost losing that game.
 
DM post game said if we play this way against X we'll lose by 20. Pretty generous, I think 30 would be more like it.

Without looking, I would bet everything I own that Duke did not play at UNCG in a regular season game a few seasons ago. Duke does not play true away games except when forced (conf games and big 10 challenge). It should be a mark against them for tournament seeding, but never is.

Just ecstatic that CMM isn't still around to take the last shot anymore. 4 years of anti-clutch was much more than enough. But if CMM had a fifth year, DM would have given him the ball yet again.
