UNC-G Basketball Game Thread

Although we are playing on their home floor, it doesn't present a dangerous road environment like other mid-majors examples thus far (IU @ IPFW, Butler @ IN St, Vandy @ Mid Tenn). I think KenPom's system is giving too much credit to UNCG for the game being played at the Coliseum. Maybe I'm in the minority, but if it is a 40 minute battle w/ Wake winning a close one, i'd be lying to say it wouldn't be a little discouraging. We'll see, but so far my eye test says Wake is good enough to dominate a predicted 10-8 Southern Conf team 30 miles from home.

Yeah--this is a fair statement. Not all road environments are the same, but it's hard to account for, so he just applies a "one size fits all".

If High Point and UNC-G have the exact same team, I would rather play UNC-G at the Coliseum than at High Point for sure.

Also, if we were traveling to play Long Beach State on their home floor (a couple of spots behind UNC-G), I would consider that a "tougher" road game because of the travel required to get out there.

I get your point, but somehow I doubt this game is of any importance to any sportsbook in Vegas or otherwise.

Right, I highly doubt there are going to be huge vultures that swoop on this line and pounce.

Just a good small example of how Vegas can play the betting public who goes on name alone in making their betting decisions.

"Oh Wake is only an 8 point favorite over UNC-G? Surely they can win that by double-digits, I'll bet that!"

I agree 100% with this. I was just surprised that the line was -9.5... Expected to see -7ish.

Expecting a game where we lead by 8-12 all night and the outcome is never really in doubt even though the performance isn't all that pretty.

Wondering how the 8 day layoff between this and Xavier will impact the effort tonight, if at all.

I hope Danny is a little more aggressive with Collins, even if he gets in foul trouble, I'd like to see him out there to try and figure it out. If he fouls out so be it, but I'm tired of him picking up quick ones and then playing 20 minutes and ending the game with 3 fouls. He has be able to play at least 30 mins a game by the time we get to ACC play.

We also gave our bench guys not named Keyshawn Woods 60 minutes of playing time against Charlotte. Richmond was closer to 40, Nova was only 23, Northwestern 34. While heavier bench minutes are typical in blowout wins due to late game subs, Manning seems to like going heavy with our bench guys immediately when we get up early to a clearly inferior team - like Washington getting 1st half minutes. Doesn't make for gaudy wins but it's probably a lot more useful to our fringe players than garbage minutes against scrubs.

I actually bet Wake -7 last night. It must not have been available long.

Yeah, opened at 8 at my book and quickly went to 9 and now 9.5. I'll be staying away. 7 would have been tempting, for sure.

It opened in Vegas at 7.5 and has gone up to 9.5. The O/U went from 146 to 152.

Who's gonna go off for UNCG tonight? Alonso? Doesn't seem like they have any legit good scorers.

Why be satisfied with 100? Bilas hits 7 threes and we should get 150!

UNCG is very good at forcing turnovers. Crawford needs to protect the ball. Their guards are quick. UVA pummeled UNCG (76-51) in Greensboro. That's the only top 100 team that they have played. UNCG plays at a slow tempo; so, beating them by double digits won't be as easy as it was against Charlotte. Not a huge fan of WF minus the points in this spot.

With or without the UVA big guy transfer who was kicked off the team?

Edit: from the UVa website pregame summary - "Cavalier forwards Austin Nichols (violation of team rules) and Mamadi Diakite (amateurism review) will not play against UNCG."

The Spartans do have a small on campus gym with bleachers, smaller than Reynolds Gym, as I was on campus once a very long time ago, ducked my head in to check it out. Seats maybe 1800-1900.

I think they used to play some home women's games on campus.
