On October 17th, my buddy's nephew, Zach Bannister, was killed in action by a sniper while serving with the Special Forces in Kenya. It was a devastating loss for his family and friend's and his beautiful wife, Lindsay, whom Zach had married in Charleston SC only about a year earlier. Zach was a pretty special guy - the Army was his second military career, as he'd been in the Marine Corps before becoming a Green Beret with the US Army at 26. I'll let the note below speak for itself - if you have five minutes tonight, or tomorrow, or even after Christmas, consider sending his parents, Scott and Kim, and his young widow, Lindsay, a Christmas card. I know it would mean the world to them. Thank you.

The relatives of Sergeant First Class Zach Bannister, who was killed during his deployment in Kenya this October, are asking for Christmas cards to be sent to his widow and parents this holiday season.

33-year-old SFC Zachary Allan Bannister was killed in the line of duty on October 17th, 2016 while serving as a member of Alpha 3236, Company C, 2nd Battalion, 3rd Special Forces Group (Airborne) in Kenya. Zach's uncle, David Bannister, and his family are asking everyone to send cards to his widow, Lindsay Bannister, and parents, Scott and Kim Bannister, to thank Zach for his service and to comfort the family on their first Christmas without him. In a Facebook group, his uncle notes how much it would mean to them to receive cards at a time of year when family is so important.

You can mail cards to Zach's family at the following addresses:

Lindsay Bannister
38 Lone Pine Trail, Sanford, NC 27332

Scott and Kim Bannister
303 Rockbridge Rd, Portsmouth, Va 23707

Friends also created a Facebook page called "Zach's Act" to support his legacy. The page encourages people to perform random acts of kindness in Zach's name with #ZachsAct. You can find the link to the page here >> https://www.facebook.com/ZachsAct/.

SFC Bannister, originally from Reynoldsburg, OH, was stationed at Fort Bragg. He served 14 years in the military with the Marines and the US Army. He left the Marines at age 26 to serve as a Green Beret. Bannister was awarded three bronze stars, one with the "Valor" designation, the Meritorious Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal, and several other unit and personal decorations while serving two tours in Afghanistan.

SFC Zach Bannister will be buried at Arlington National Cemetery with full Military Honors.
