Betsy DeVos

Why is the education establishment so afraid of being accountable to the stakeholders? Why fight the only meaningful leverage afforded to the people the system exists serve? In what other facet of our society--other than the DMV or the Bureau of Prisons---- does the end user get absolutely no choice? The fear is not confidence inspiring.

See discdude's post above. You're approach to educationis flawed.

The for profit private schools are not involved in the accountability for the education establishment.

Why is this debate about Devos' ideas rather than her qualifications for the position? If we assume we need to try some new ideas, even DeVos' ideas, it's really embarrassingly sad if she is the best person to implement them. She's a complete joke. You can't argue her merits for the job. You can only argue the failures of the status quo. She bought this job.

Yeah. A garbage man could have the same ideas, doesn't mean he's qualified for the job.

I know nothing about DeVos other than it seems like everyone hates her, but the "not qualified for the job" justification went out the window with respect to all government positions in 2008. Precedent was set, and there is no reason for anyone to back off of that. It manifested itself in Trump'e election and he is free to push it further with his appointments. This is Obama's legacy, and everyone who voted for him owns it. The chickens have come home to roost.

Its sad when a formerly proficient troll poster falls to these depths. I guess life is so good in Roy Cooper's North Carolina you can't summon the anger you used to have.

wanna give some examples?

If this is your starting point there's really no point in even wading into the discussion.

Oddly enough, Obama, even by the most conservative standards, was more qualified in 2008 than DeVos is for this job. Obama was probably more qualified for her job then too.

Slippery slope. Obama, by any objective standard, was completely unqualified for the job of President when he was first elected. Once we went down that road, there is no going back, and we've been left with nothing but a steaming pile of shit ever since. Just wait until Kanye runs and wins in 2020, he'll make Trump look like George Fucking Washington.

What about Obama's cabinet appointees?

Ha! What makes one "qualified" to be president in your mind? The most important thing is being intelligent and a good leader, and he clearly was that.

It's ok for someone unqualified for the job of President if they surround themselves with qualified people. The best people. Remember that nonsense from the campaign? Betsy DeVos is not one of those people.

This is a false equivalency. Yes Obama was relatively inexperienced, but electing a reality tv star and nominating a wealthy party donor to an important cabinet position is not the logical extension of electing a one term senator to the presidency.

There's no use in pointing out false equivalencies anymore. #Feelings are the new #facts.

You can't logic with people who don't think logically.

Stevie Wonder is more qualified to be a limo driver than Betsy DeVos is to be Secretary of Education. I'd have no problem with her being Ambassador to Andorra.

And what exactly was Obama's leadership experience before he was elected President? Community organizer? He fails even your own definition of what is most important.
Trump meets your definition more than Obama did at the time of their respective elections.

What about Obama's cabinet appointees?

Plenty of them sucked, too. What did Obama's Education Secretary do to improve education? Not much of anything. The apparent fear is that DeVos is going to drive up charter schools, well wtf happened under Obama's Education Secretary's watch? Pretty much that exact thing.
