Meh, fuck the for-profits and the Trump administration for encouraging them.


Taxpayers wouldn't be on the hook for the defaulted loans or forgiven ones if the government didn't allow federal aid/loans to go to these predatory institutions.

Borrow to attend the best public school you can if you or your parents can't pay for college.

DeVos rolls back rules aimed at low-performing for-profit and career colleges

Education Secretary Betsy DeVos moved Thursday to eliminate Obama-era regulations that were meant to cut off federal funding to low-performing programs at for-profit schools and other career colleges.

The Education Department unveiled a proposal to rescind the "gainful employment" regulation, which was a centerpiece of the Obama administration's crackdown on for-profit education companies.

At this point it's abundantly clear that DeVos has no interest in improving education for kids, or in improving public schools in any way, or in really doing anything innovative in education. Her goal, from the beginning, has been to allow for the creation of more and more for-profit schools that benefit people like her and her friends. It's basically a scam, and one of the leading scammers is now in charge of the Education Department. Which describes many members of Trump's cabinet - they're foxes put in charge of the hen house. It's very similar to what happened in Harding's Administration, when he appointed dozens of his corrupt Ohio friends to high government positions, and stood by as they stole the government blind and enriched themselves.

Interesting how Republicans blame federal loans and other funding for tuition increases at four-year universities and want to cut programs they don’t think help people get jobs but they’re fine with for-profit scam colleges collecting federal funds without evidence they can help people get jobs.

Yeah, it was obvious, especially to anyone who had followed her actions in Michigan, that she was bad, bad news for education and educators in this country, but the turn of phrase was just too easy to use.

No doubt Trump is a ringleader of all this (one of the differences with Harding), but his cabinet has to be one of the blatantly corrupt ever. There's a few members who, whatever one thinks of their policy positions, at least appear to be serious and relatively honest in their jobs (like Mattis), but only a few. Many of them are little more than con artists who clearly see their positions as a chance to enrich themselves and gut regulations and oversight rules that would have prevented people like them from scamming others, and organizations. Historians 25 to 50 years from now are going to have field day writing about just how much of a "swamp" this administration was.
 
Betsy DeVos Thinks Black Students Are Too Stupid to Understand Her Plans, According to Omarosa's New Book



In her new book, Unhinged: An Insider’s Account of the Trump White House—which came out Tuesday—Omarosa dishes some dirt about the time Betsy DeVos showed up to Bethune-Cookman University in Florida to deliver a commencement speech in May 2017. As Politico reports, she was notoriously booed during her appearance, but according to Manigault Newman, she persevered anyway and plodded through her speech.

Describing the entire incident as being “painful to experience,” Manigault Newman wrote, “Betsy got up onstage to give her speech and was immediately, loudly booed by the entire audience. Graduating students and their families stood up and turned their backs on her. I was seated onstage watching this travesty unfold. When the booing started, she should have wrapped it up, but she went on and on for twenty minutes, talking over the booing. I was thinking, It’s not about you! Abandon your full speech! Adjust, woman!”

DeVos had previously referred to HBCUs as being “real pioneers when it comes to school choice.” Yes, that really happened.

Manigault Newman wrote that she asked DeVos after the speech how she thought it went, to which DeVos reportedly said, “I did great!”

“I must have looked stunned,” Manigault Newman wrote, saying that DeVos then added: “They don’t get it. They don’t have the capacity to understand what we’re trying to accomplish.”

“Meaning, all those black students were too stupid to understand her agenda,” Manigault Newman explained in her book.

Well this actually makes sense from the GOP perspective of “Keep kids as dumb as possible so we might be able to convince them that we aren’t totally full of shit and then they might vote for us.”
 
The NRA spent $50 million on the 2016 election only to see gun sales plummet. Gotta boost gun sales somehow!
