Trump's Bullshit Trade Tantrums

And who controls the Department of Agriculture, I wonder? Apparently none of these farmers ever took a civics class in school, or paid any attention if they did.

All of these people also believe that NWS employees in Birmingham changes the weather data to try and make Trump look stupid last week. The big story there, was not that Trump is an egomaniacal idiot but that they blamed mid level government civil servants instead of the obvious truth that the president was wrong. It’s happening here too and his followers are eager to believe it.

The “Trump cares about me” crowd will eat that up.

Republicanism and ‘merican “conservatism” has become essentially a cult.

CNBC has an article about the Koch network changing its strategy to oppose Trump's trade war because they realized their publicity campaign wasn't working on GOP voters. To quote one Koch advisor: “The argument that, you know, the tariffs are adding a couple thousand dollars to the pickup truck that you’re buying is not persuasive." My favorite point in the article, though, was this one: "A recent Harvard CAPS/ Harris poll shows that 63% of registered voters believe tariffs will ultimately hurt the United States more than China, but 67% of the electorate is convinced it’s necessary to confront China over its trade practices." So, 67% of the people polled said we needed to confront China over its trade policies, even though roughly the same percentage said they think we'll be hurt more than China by the trade war, which means that China likely won't back off. That's some sound reasoning right there.

“Lost cause” logic.

It’s funny to see conservative leaders realize their base will follow any random nut job who spews enough hate.

As an aside, it is so ridiculous to publish those poll numbers without showing what percent answered Yes/No to both.

It’s almost like a socialist take over of a huge sector of our economy...or at least it would be if the president were a Democrat.

Yep. Between this and the Trump Administration's overruling of the new California ruling on car emissions (and bitterly criticizing the agreement of Detroit automakers to go along with the California ruling), it's just more crystal clear evidence that many of the "principles" for which the GOP claims to be fighting are hypocrisy at best, blatant lies at worst. States Rights? If it involves a liberal state like California or environmentalism, forget it! We've got to screw the libs first, and states rights be damned! Fighting Socialist welfare giveaways? That only applies if there are Democrats involved. If it's Trumpite rural whites who need help (because of the failure of Trump's own policies, mind you), we'll have the feds provide as many Socialist wealth redistribution programs as are necessary to make them happy. It's obvious that opposition to "Socialism" also only applies to Democratic policies and voting blocs. Just more proof that the main priority of the modern GOP is sticking it to the libs. In pursuit of that goal, all so-called "principles" are flexible at best.

When I first moved to HB in the mid-80s and had to go to LA, I could literally see the brown air as I drove up La Cienega towards Beverly Hills and Hollywood. That's been gone for about 15-20 years due to the CA emission and pollution standards.
