Wake Forest Football Recruiting

There are several different ways to measure a recruiting class. By national rank, ACC rank, schools that also offered, and the average numerical ranking. We tend to finish between 50-60 in national rank, 11-14 in ACC rank and around .8500 in numerical rating. This year we are within those parameters but our average rank of .8360 (per 247) is the lowest for us since 2017 and the schools we beat out also were not quite as impressive overall. Clawson has proven he can "coach up" and develop players so I am not too concerned about a slight slippage this year especially since we also got two GT who had good ranking out of high school

Impressed with Clawson’s commitment to the importance of the kicking game and improving wake’s kick off coverage weakness. Imagine our record last year without Sciba or with a strong legged touchback specialist. Attention to these details will be key to teams success

It is a strong possibility we would have won 2 more games had KOs gone over the endzone.

We have improved our North Carolina recruiting and it’s time to move into new areas and challenge the in state schools for talent. It is a position of some depth for us but challenging talent is always good to add.

Really good players don't worry too much about who is ahead of them- they figure they are better. Nice to get those guys.

Yeah. Another guy who did what Kenneth Walker did - earn significant reps and carries as a true freshman - would be a good pickup.

While we patiently await signs of life from the basketball program...breaking down 2021 prospects by position-

QB: Santino Marucci - We've got our guy. Very talented and will be a solid addition from the moment he steps on campus.

RB: Kamarrro Edmonds - Was a combo CB/RB but as he has filled out is choosing to focus on RB. Has visited campus and Coach Hunter has been out to see him at his school.
Trevion Cooley - No relation to our incoming Fr. RB, but also a top RB in NC. Coach Hunter has been to see him at his HS too. His mom works as a teacher, and education is highly valued in his recruitment.

WR: Micah Crowell - A 4* WR, local talent. Has been on campus. Heavily recruited, and a must get to replace Sage when he leaves to go pro. His brother also plays for East Forsyth class of 2022.
Walker Merrill - A second 4* WR who has been on campus. Also heavily recruited. Wake considered in the running. Runs good routes and is working on his speed this coming season to create more separation. Plays with other high level P5 recruits in TN.
Josh Burrell - High level 3* WR from SC. Also has a sibling who plays football. Extremely strong and developed already. Might not need a redshirt year. High GPA, seems would fit academically as well.
Breon Pass - Reidsville WR, very talented multi-sport athlete. Can be a high level D1 basketball or football player. Very fast and has a good vertical. Has multiple D1 offers for football and basketball.
JJ Jones - Came to campus but is now being recruited by Notre Dame and Clemson. Seems unlikely, but worth keeping tabs on
Julian Gray - Another NC product. His dad is a football coach. Has been on campus already. Very fast, likely slot receiver.
Dalton Stroman - Tall 6'4 receiver, 2 sport athlete with football and basketball. Scotty Washington type, but thinner.
Tyreek Chappel - From Philadelphia PA, he is very fast. Potential slot receiver. Has strong interest in Wake Forest and West Virginia. We have made his final list. Can also play CB.
TE: Some offers have gone out, but no names sticking out at this point

OL: Nick Sharpe - Already committed. Will be an OG. Strong run blocker.
Michael Gonzalez - NC player, who by all indications wants to stay in NC. Will be a recruiting battle between us, UNC, Duke, and State.
Yousef Mucharbil - Another NC hs product, has blown up over the past year and came out of nowhere. Extremely big and strong. Recruitment is booming and we seem to be lagging.
Jaydon Collins - an OT prospect from SC, very good film, seems to be some mutual interest.
Michael McLaughlin - Physically huge OT from FL who Wake was on early. Since we have offered he has jumped up in rankings and is now considered one of the premier OT prospects in FL. High academics.
Tristan Bounds - Another OT prospect who plays at Connecticut prep school Choate (high academics). He is originally from Blacksburg, Virginia.
Jaden Lindsey - From East Forsyth, teammate of Micah Crowell. Has been a good pipeline for us. If he comes as a package deal with Crowell, that would be nice.

DE: Wake has offered the top 4 DE's in North Carolina, but they all hold offers to all the top schools in America so I won't hold my breath (Keeshawn Silver, Jahvaree Ritzie, Travali Price, and Zaire Patterson). Landing even 1 of those 4 would be huge, but a long shot.
George Wilson - a 6'5 DE from Virginia Beach, VA. Our staff seems to have found a gem, and hope they can bring him in. Also plays basketball.
Cole Nelson - Currently unranked he is a 6'3 DE from GA. Also being pursued by Vanderbilt and Virginia Tech.

DT: Cameron Ball - a huge DT from Atlanta GA, his hudl film is awesome. Also being heavily pursued by Ga. Tech. and Virginia Tech. Remember when a recruit chose Vanderbilt because they had an engineering program? Wake has one now too. No clue if Ball wants to study engineering.
Matthew Alexander - Another big DT from GA. Good at using his hands against OLinemen. His DLine coach is friends with our coaches. Seems to be mutual interest.

LB: Jack Hollifield – A local NC player, his dad played at Wake, brother plays for Va Tech. Very good, and is favoring Michigan and Va. Tech. over us right now.
Kaci Seegars – Another local NC player from Charlotte area. Has been to campus. Has good speed
Gavin Barthiel – Lakeland FL 3* LB, has very good hudl film. Looks to have a nose for the ball and likes to light people up when he tackles them.
Damon Owens - From Tennessee and is friends with WR target Walker Merrill. Was a safety and kept getting bigger. Very athletic and would be a nice possibility at LB or Rover

CB: Brandon Johnson – Lives about 1 hour from campus, West on I-40. Has offers from every school in NC, has been to campus twice. Is being heavily recruited by UNC, NC State, Va. Tech, and us.
Robert Simmons – Jacksonville FL target is considered a high 3-start prospect. Very good hudl film.
Javon Bullard - 3-star CB from Georgia. Has good size for the position, but runs a little slow.
Tymir Brown - From Jacksonville NC. Undersized but fast.

Safety: Will Johnson – 3* from Maryland, high academics. Good hudl.
TJ Quinn – 3* from Georgia. Is being recruited to play the Rover position. Nice film.
Caden Fordham - 3* from the Bolles School in Jacksonville FL. Strong pipeline for Wake Forest.

Kicker: Matthew Dennis - Already committed, from Myers Park HS in Charlotte. Rated #3 kicker is HS football.
