Wake Forest Football Recruiting

It also helps reinforce that Wake may have a rep as a developmental program but if you put in the work and the situation lines up, you can play right away and keep your spot.

We’ve got Andersen blowing up as a true frosh walk on. On the other side of the ball, Hartman started as a true frosh and Walker competed with a senior and junior for carries as the lowest rated true frosh in his class.

Makes you wonder what could happen to the win/loss ratio if the right, very highly rated, 4 star linemen (or 5 star (dreaming)) played under Clawson. He really is a smart coach, and all of them can make the wrong judgement call; but he is on top of this head coaching deal to achieve the wins he has achieved at WF.

Plus, such a successful very highly rated 4 star would shine like a diamond playing at WF the way Boogie does with fewer stars.

Maybe the 4 stars will see this in The College Football News:
13. Can we all give Dave Clawson a whole lot more love as one of the best coaches in college football? That you probably need to be told that he’s the Wake Forest head coach is part of the problem. His team lost to Clemson and NC State to start the season, and now it’s on a three-game winning streak after beating Virginia Tech – who couldn’t stop throwing picks to Nick Anderson, who came up with three, or getting flagged – 23-16.

^Looking ahead a little and reinforcing that there are tough games ahead so better take advantage at Syracuse:
"8. North Carolina is just plain weird – it has yet to play the same type of game twice. After the shootout against Virginia Tech, and after the ragged clunker against Florida State, the D dominated NC State’s running game in the early 48-21 win. The Tar Heels ran wild – 326 yards – to take the pressure off of Sam Howell, but … Florida State got whacked 48-16 by Louisville this week."

Yeah. Boogie being mentioned as a first round/top 15 drsft pick helps too. Nick Andersen represents the beginning of the developmental process. Boogie is the culmination. As would Jamie Newman, had he played this season.

Jesse Bates, John Wolford, Phil Haynes and Justin Herron are other examples of the guys Clawson is turning out through development. Three star recruits to NFL players.
Three star recruit -->Clawson Developmental Program +hard work --> NFL player.

Now to convince more 4 star guys that the same process could get them to Pro Bowl or All Pro.

Tyair Spencer, a good size WR who currently is a senior at Howard Technology in Wilmington, DE got some love in Delawareonline. They list his current measurables as 6-4, 205. These are up from his junior year.

Supposedly he has significantly increased his speed and explosiveness getting off the line of scrimmage.

There is little on the recruiting services about him. He has five offers, Morgan State, Delaware State and Central Connecticut, among them.

He has soft hands and a pretty big catch radius. The article didn't list a 40 time. If he truly has competitive speed now, might be worth a look.

If he’s decent, I would think the Blue Hens would be after him.

The big question is how much quicker and faster is he. He looked fast against a traditionally strong team. But they are down this season.

Since the turn of the century, the Demon Deacons boast a record of 30-19 against UNC, NC State and Duke. In addition, during that time, Wake Forest is 44-19 against all in-state opponents.

Deserves repeating to all parents of NC football athletes, high school coaches, guidance counselors, WF fans, media and especially Heels, Wulfies, and Dukies.

Also, most importantly during that time frame, the only NC school with an ACC title.

Ture indeed. Since the turn of th century WF is 30-19 against UNC, NC State and Duke and the only winner of an ACC Championship in NC.
If we had more match ups with UNC during the past 20 years the win margin woud be higher.

The discounting these other programs engage in about these facts is quite amazing. They (media and fans) readily throw shade on the 2006 ACC Championship victory whining that it was a down year for the ACC.
How do they explain away the 30-19 record? Has it been two down decades for the other ACC schools in NC?

Perceptions of Wake Forest football are hard to change. This season presents an opportunity to do so. Seven conference wins against this schedule would be a statement.

Good post.

And don't forget to mention that Wake Forest has the most recent ACC CHAMPIONSHIP of the Big 4 schools!

According to Twitter, we got a PWO commit named Trent Nicholson. He’s a FS from a Seattle suburb. Does anyone know how we found him?

Kendall Flowers has un-recruited himself from Wake. He opted out for Covid over the summer. Now has entered the transfer portal after playing only two games for Wake.

At least we're getting a bunch of free pub today with Hinton
