'17 Specials & '18 Midterms Thread

MSNBC gave out some stat like 72% of Montana votes early, so today would have to turn for Quisp, big time.

And Republicans have shown they don't care how horrible of human beings their candidates are, as long as they're not Democrats.

Well, I think Quist had a decent shot before this. People keep talking about this race like it's a long shot, but Gianforte lost to a Democrat incumbent governor just 6 months ago. He's clearly not that popular. Montana has an independent streak. Trump got 55.6%. The Rep for the House got 56.3%. Gianforte only got 46.4%. He got about 13% fewer votes than the other Republicans on the ballot. Obviously the Dem incumbent could simply be popular, but it's a stretch to say Gianforte will definitely do better than he did 6 months ago given how bad Trump and the House Republicans have performed.

One of the more interesting Women's March locations was Helena. They drew 10,000 people. That's equal to 2% of everybody in Montana who voted in 2016. Strong turn out from that crowd would tilt things for Quist.

538 is saying the early returns look good for Gianforte. He leads big in Billings and that's a huge deficit to overcome.

Prolly better this way. Don't set off all kinds of alarms at GOP HQ with a shock win. Make them think things are actually OK, then take them to the cleaners big style come 2018

Republicans outspent the Democrats in this race. Republicans floated polls showing a narrow lead. I don't think the Republican machine needs alarms to wake up.

More referring to governing policy. If Trump keeps acting as Teapartier-in-chief when he ran as an economic progressive, shit's gon go down

He ran as an authoritarian and he is delivering. That's why his base still loves him.

Trump ran on being a dumbass and is delivering

and slowly the base is eroding

https://fivethirtyeight.com/features/donald-trumps-base-is-shrinking/

To the contrary, Trump’s base seems to be eroding. There’s been a considerable decline in the number of Americans who strongly approve of Trump, from a peak of around 30 percent in February to just 21 or 22 percent of the electorate now. (The decline in Trump’s strong approval ratings is larger than the overall decline in his approval ratings, in fact.) Far from having unconditional love from his base, Trump has already lost almost a third of his strong support.

if democrats don't learn to understand why the body slam thing didn't hurt and in some ways probably helped Gianforte, they're doomed in '18 and '20

The Media's obsessive & incessant attacks on President Trump have become counter-productive to their cause. They are playing right into Trump's hands.....again.

Gianforte doesn't believe in retirement. You know why? It's not in the Bible.

https://www.washingtonpost.com/news...ement-is-not-biblical/?utm_term=.3472cda0880b

“There’s nothing in the Bible that talks about retirement. And yet it’s been an accepted concept in our culture today,” he said at the time, according to a report in HuffPost. “Nowhere does it say, ‘Well, he was a good and faithful servant, so he went to the beach.’ It doesn’t say that anywhere.”

Gianforte, who is now 56, was then a potential candidate for governor of Montana. The tech entrepreneur — Gianforte founded a software company that was later sold to Oracle — had been traveling the state to promote the benefits of telecommuting.

“How old was Noah when he built the ark? 600,” he said. “He wasn’t like, cashing Social Security checks, he wasn’t hanging out, he was working. So, I think we have an obligation to work. The role we have in work may change over time, but the concept of retirement is not biblical.”

Can we please stop electing shitheads into office?
