'17 Specials & '18 Midterms Thread

Maybe. I think most of the Republicans who are going to leave have already left. The "otherwise decent but deceived folks" are either not decent or very easily deceived. Democrats need to realize this is at most 30% of the population and it's not worth courting them beyond putting forth good policies that better their lives.

Dems should run away from Pelosi. Running away from Obama cost them the Obama coalition in 2010.

Yes on both scores. But for god sakes, can someone please tell the Clintons to eff off and go hide somewhere, preferably with Pelosi.

Definitely. I’ll add to my first point that Democrats shouldn’t expect that 30% to give them credit for those policies. We are in a post-truth era.

Seems like Democrat candidates could help themselves by using stronger language. Liar is a term I haven't seen much of, maybe due to the press refusing to use it, but using kid's gloves and words comes across as weak.

Probably due to the press. It's not a winner for Democrat candidates. By and large, Democrats want to see their politicians act with civility.

Let's play this suggestion out.

1. Democrat politician calls Trump a liar.
2. Republican media erupts in faux outrage.
3. Breitbart finds or makes up something Democrat politician said that ended up not being true
4. Republicans freak out and call Democrat politician a hypocrite
5. Democrats facepalm

16 Republicans and Hillary tried to take it to Trump like he gave it out and they failed.

Just needs lines after 2 and 4 about how the non-Republican media treats it like a legit story. "Dem called the President a liar, stirring outrage." "[Insert faux serious Republican] points out that Dem once said something false."

I mean, everything you said already happens when people dance around the situation. Just call him a liar and stop debating it with those who won't listen. Democrats look like pushovers because they've tried to "work with" Republicans or Trump despite them ignoring facts and science. I think you can act with civility and still be factual with terms like liar, fraud, etc. He's literally the worst politician in US history and we're still treating him with the honor of being in the office of a US president. Enough. He doesn't deserve that respect and giving it to him empowers him and legitimizes his views.

They are running these ads in KC and STL as well against McCaskill. Other ads on abortion and teaching islam in schools as well.

A new radio ad seeks to frighten black voters away from Sen. Claire McCaskill’s campaign by suggesting the Democrat supports lynchings.

Another ad tells black voters to ask McCaskill “why she doesn’t want our babies?”

McCaskill’s Republican opponent, Josh Hawley, did not immediately say whether he condemns the ads, which seek to boost his campaign.

A North Carolina-based political action committee has spent nearly $30,000 on the ads, and is facing widespread backlash for similar spots running in other states.

The lynching ad features two African American women discussing the treatment of Justice Brett Kavanaugh during his Senate confirmation hearings and contend that white Democrats will presume African American men are guilty “when a white girl screams rape.”

Another of the group’s Missouri ads accuses McCaskill, who supports abortion rights, of not caring “that black babies that are aborted three times more likely than white babies,” Vernon Robinson, the treasurer of Black Americans for the President’s Agenda, which has paid for ads in St. Louis and Kansas City

“The punch line is, ‘Next time Claire McCaskill asks for your vote, ask why she doesn’t want our babies,’” Robinson said.

“Without 90 percent of the black vote, Claire McCaskill will not be re-elected,” Robinson said.

McCaskill has already had to combat the notion that she’s not done enough to reach out to African American voters on the campaign trail before the ads began airing.

Surprise! ‘Black’ super PAC behind racist radio ad in Arkansas is funded by white people

Shocking, I know.

Just learned that Alabama has two ballot measure this November, one to ban abortion in the state and the second would permit the display of the 10 commandments in public places. They are hitting the ground running on the Kavanaugh appointment, and this also looks like a desperate attempt to drum up conservative turnout. They aren’t letting Doug Jones happen all over again.

Making ‘merica great.

The GOP has now moved so far to the right that anyone to the left of John McCain or Jeff Flake is now seen as a Communist or Socialist (which they seem to think are the same thing). My guess is that a good many Trumpites now honestly believe (via convincing themselves or being convinced by Fox), that the two major political parties in the USA now consist of Communists and terrorist mobs (who used to be called Democrats), and good, god-fearin', Real (white) Americans who make up the only remaining party that wants to save America (otherwise known as Republicans).

1. Make it increasingly more difficult for people to vote by requiring identification, closing DMV offices, closing polling locations, reducing early voting, limiting polling booths, etc.
2. Claim that these people who are registered but don't vote anymore are lazy and remove them from the voter rolls.
3. Win/profit
