Women's Golf

Seems like everybody has struggled on the back 9 both days. If UF gives up a couple more strokes we're not in a bad position to make a run tomorrow.

Bagnoli also now a full 7 strokes out of DFL. Played the last 6 holes at one over after playing the first 30 at 25 over.

Top 6 qualify for the NCAA Championships.

Looks like WF will be in 4th place at (-1) and hold a 6 shot lead over the 7th place team Texas Tech (+5). While not WF's best performance (WF is the #2 seed and is currently in 4th), the only thing that matters is finishing in the top 6 and seems on track for that.

Also, Jennifer Kupcho shot 69 today and has jumped up 7 spots on the leaderboard and is now tied for 6th in the individual standings. She is 6 shots back of the leader. She will have to go low tomorrow to win the individual title.

UPDATE: Kupcho is now up to 4th on the individual leaderboard.

It would be nice to still have Sierra Brooks on the team. I had to go look up the story because I couldn't remember what happened, and couldn't make it past the opening few sentences:

https://www.orlandosentinel.com/sports/florida-gators/os-sp-gators-golf-0210-story.html

"Outside it is a Chamber of Commerce day in Gainesville, where a cloudless, brilliant sky illuminates the undulating terrain and stately live oaks at Mark Bostick Golf Course.

Inside the Florida Gators golf complex, Sierra Brooks’ smile lights up the room. The look is born from a sense of belonging, contentment and achievement the one-time phenom from the Orlando area had not felt in some time.

This time a year ago, Brooks endured her darkest winter, while a freshman at Wake Forest University. Recovering from wrist surgery, questioning her future and pining for home on yet another cold, overcast day in Winston-Salem, N.C., Brooks felt lost and alone."

They are playing foursomes (the previous rounds were threesomes), which means that WF is playing with the leaders as WF starts round 3 in 4th, and the NCAA groups the top 4 together. Going to be a long round.

The number 5 is even Par through four which is a good sign

Wake currently 10 shots clear of 7th place and the top 6 advance. Things can change quickly in college golf, but things look good for Wake advancing.

Bagnoli is even through six holes, she's the only player in the bottom 33 players that's E or below par today. Crazy that she stunk for 30 holes but has played good golf for the last 12 holes.

WF's #4 player Vanessa Knecht is at -3 for the day; tied for the best round of the day for any player in the field.

everyone agrees great contribution by 'Bags' today taking the pressure off the other ladies so we all know that we are through to the finals ... great job! ... proud to be a Deacon!

across the four regional sites, chalk is holding up very well

#9 South Carolina has work to do, but we could have 18 of the top 20 teams at nationals with the two exceptions being #18 Oklahoma and #20 Michigan St - who both hosted regions

The most important thing today is that our 5 is played much better we're going to need better play out of her to challenge for a top-eight spot in the finals.

Now tied for 2nd after back to back birdies by Kupcho who is now 2 back for individual medalist

I agree it was a nice gesture for 'Bags' to play from the tips the first two days just to make it interesting and she moved back to the tips again today after the tenth hole.

She doesn't need to make it quite as interesting for the national finals so I will ask for her to play from the same tees as the other ladies.

I know that women's collegiate golf isn't the deepest talent pool, but this is an NCAA regional and there is a team here that's going to go +100. There are better high school teams.

If a girl can consistently break 80 in competitive HS/junior golf, she'll get a full ride somewhere.
