Spurs Thread

He's not going to get that kind of money anywhere else.

We can just agree to disagree on this one, but Aldridge just signed a max deal 2 years ago for 4 years, $80mil+. I would argue that if he opts out after the 3rd year, he could certainly do better on the open market than ~$22mil, given the increase in max contract dollars.

In general I'd agree, but his lack of toughness, defensive problems and shrinking in the big moments weren't as evident when he signed last time. More importantly if he opts out, he'll be 33+ in his first season of a new contract. If he plays this one out he'll be 34. How many guys that old, who aren't superstars, get nearly max money?

If the Warriors sweep the Cavs and KD stays, the NBA needs to armor up the Cavs with the best free agent of 2017.

The best free agent of 2017 is....

Here's an option. :)

Trade LMA (get $5-15M off cap)
Waive stretch Tony (+10M)
Sign CP3 for about $25M)

18/19-

Even with CP3's $25M the Spure will be about $20-25M under
Then they sign Lebron to close his career out with Pop. CP3 and Kawhi

:)

It's funny you think someone would trade for lma but no one would sign him for more money than he is currently owed.

He got a max deal at 28/29yo, was an All-Star and a go to guy. His next contract will start at age 33/34, is not an All Star any longer not a go to guy on offense. He could get the same or marginally more, but not in proportion to his current deal. He's not getting anything like a max deal this time.

But he has some trade value. The one trade I've posted about is with another problem to sign player. Add to that, Aldridge is from TX, went to UT, NO ain't far away and would be playing next to Anthony Davis as the clear second fiddle big rather than having to be THE MAN.

Those are solid reasons, but you can be snarky and superficial if you so choose.

Such solid reasons. Do you have any idea how much you sound like Donald Trump ?

A little Spurs donk porn:
http://www.poundingtherock.com/2017...ortedly-working-out-kawhi-leonard-this-summer

Kawhi Leonard has a history of making tremendous leaps in between seasons. This offseason he will be taking young point guard Dejounte Murray with him. The two will reportedly be spending the summer together in San Diego at Leonard’s home and training together.

...

If Murray can replicate offseason progression anything like what Leonard has done throughout his young career, than the Spurs will have a brilliant point guard in the future.

Start from day one with an uncharacteristic (for pop) long leash. He's got something to cultivate.

Pop is going to stay the course. Small improvements at needed positions at decent prices. A vet wing that can defend and shoot. A mobile big that can defend pnr. Back up pg.

Will they explore a big move like Paul? Sure. But if it means wot of turnover for potentially little improvement they won'tpull the trigger.

Pop believed they had a shot this year before zaza. That's why be was so angry in that media day afterwards.

That's not a tell. That's a kid who doesn't want to miss out on a golden opportunity.

if the spurs were to trade for cp3 it would not include murray. paul is a short term, use kawhi's prime pick up. murray could be the guy at the end of kawhi's prime and as he ages.

This deal would cripple the spurs and is not the best fit for Cp3 due to the purge of the talent needed to clear cap space. I think it was leaked to put pressure on clippers management to see if they had any out of the box ideas to improve the roster.

I think the Spurs and CP3 are smart enough to explore the option, but also smart enough not to do it because it wouldn't be in either's long term interest.

This, but I think even more to pressure the Clips to give CP the full 5-year super max despite how much of an albatross that contract likely will be at the tail end.

Paul to the Spurs depends entirely on how much money he is willing to give up to truly compete for a championship. The Warriors have the roster they have because they are paying their four "stars" at least $50 million less than they are worth.

The Spurs can probably afford to pay Paul in the $25 million range without completely gutting the roster and they would gladly do so. It's the weakest position on the roster and although Murray showed some flashes in the playoffs, it is wishful thinking that he will give you anything above replacement level play over the next 3 years
