Official 2018 NBA Offseason Thread: the preseason cometh

LOL at the thre thread owner trying to push Kawhi converse onto the Spurs thread.

First, fuck you.

Seocnd, this is the 2nd biggest story of the NBA off season after the Lebron signing.

Third, if you really want to push any Kawhi conversation off the NBA thread - which is stupid and laughable particuarly in the week after the trade, then call it the Spurs thread and not the Spurs donk thread. Otherwise, I am going to swing my donk around over here talking about all things Spurs.

Hey, I think we should rehash the Sjason Kidd to the Spurs trade rumors and spend a page on that.

Or better yet, let's spend a few pages discussing the Nets signing former BC great, Jarrod Dudley. That happened since the Kawhi trade and that is big news in ... some quarters., namely the Dudley household.

Not sure who this person is but there are some behind the scenes items that paint an interesting (poor) picture of Kawhi and his team.

Mark Heisler is opining today that the Lakers may not have Kawhi at the top of their wish list next summer. Obviously, KD would be #1, but he's not leaving GS. Also ahead of Kawhi may be The Brow. He's two years younger.

I'd guess Kawhi would not be a happy camper if he leaves $40+M (don't listen to the bozos. Barring injury, he'll get big bucks in the fifth year anyway) on the table and is paying 13% CA state income tax versus zero in TX while playing for the Clippers.

There was earlier discussion about how much money Leonard would cost himself by playing in High Tax Cali and taking a max FA contract vs the supermax he could have gotten from the Spurs (now Raptors).

And Texas has no income tax, correct.

AD is signed through 2021

Poor CP3, it was going to be hard enough to win the west but now Melo is joining him.

Naw... he'll play defense and pass the ball at this stop...

If [Redacted] turns Melo into a plus defender and coaches CP3 to a championship, I’d vote to unredact him.

The Celtics have more to offer than the Lakers if/when AD becomes available (I don't think he ever will be).

I’m really trying to talk myself into this being OK. They dodged a bullet by missing out on him last year.

They didn’t have to give anything up to get him though and hopefully Chris and James are capable of getting him to buy into an appropriate role. I’ll believe it when I see it.

I was actually reading last week about how the Smart extension could be posturing for that possibility down the line, since the Celtics don't have much in the way of tradeable contracts in that 10-15MM range.

The Rockets wanted Melo before last season, then he plays like a turd for an entire season in OKC, and they still want him. :noidea:

Can't say I see how it's going to work, but Morey and the gang clearly think it's going to work.

I suppose the logic is something like: Melo in the Ryan Anderson role >>> Ryan Anderson.

Lukewarm take: Melo is a sexy story, but losing Mbah a Moute is the biggest offseason loss for the Rockets.

Hopefully James Ennis can slide into that defensive role.

Also, De'Anthony Melton might actually contribute some minutes year. That'd be massive.

I feel like there's always the "if we can get Melo to just do X then he'll be a good fit," but Melo never seems to content to just play the 4 or be a bench scorer or play the 3-point specialist role
