Official 2018 NBA Offseason Thread: the preseason cometh

The Lakers moved the Mozgov contract when he had 3 more years left on it. How is the Deng deal harder than that?

The Lakers got rid of the Mozgov contract by including D-Lo. They may have to do the same with another #2 pick to get rid of the Deng contract. There are teams that will definitely take on Deng if Lonzo is also coming along.

Deng and Lavar seem like a lot of baggage.

let's just take a moment to remember peak Luol Deng and how much of a good dude he is

really like that guy and loved his Swiss Army knife game when he was playing all-star level ball

So do people think that Kawhi:

a) suffered a debilitating injury last year and his long term health is a legit question mark;

b) suffered debilitating injury last year, but have no concern that it will impact Kawhi's performance going forward;

c) had no significant injury last year, but based upon the advice of handlers and issues Kawhi had with Spurs, Kawhi decided not to play on a playoff team.

If the answer is either a or c, not sure how any NBA team can be comfortable giving up their future talent and committing a max contract to him as that is a path to irrelevance if there is a reasonable chance that he is either not healthy enough or too much of a head-case for extended excellence as in a top 10 NBA player for the next 5 years.

First of all, your premise is wrong. Mozgov only had two years left on his contract. Next, he was three years younger than Deng is now. Thirdly, they had to take salary back or pay the Sterling Tax for not having enough money on their books.

Here's Hoopshype - https://hoopshype.com/salaries/brooklyn_nets/

They are my go to site. Looks like they made a mistake.

So, age only plays a part if you like it. Got it!

You also don't count the necessity of taking back a contract or that Deng has effectively been out of playing since 2/3/17 (almost a year and a half).

Those Deng and Mozgov contracts must be very comforting to Hornets fans

Why would teams tanking care about Deng's age and ability to play? They couldn't care one iota. They care about Lonzo or Ingram coming along in the deal. Yes, the Lakers would have to take back a little money, but we originally were talking about the possibility of moving Deng's contract. It's very much possible.

Mostly C. But considering this appears to be his first hiccup in terms of behavior at the NBA level, and because he really really wants to play for his home town Lakers, you're not overly worried if you're Magic Johnson. If you're Danny Ainge or another NBA GM, of course you're worried and don't want to trade significant talent to rent him for 1 year. And as a practical matter, I don't see him being a head case in LA playing with LBJ. LBJ wouldn't tolerate it. Plus, Kawhi is regarded as a top 5 talent in the association and has exactly 1 ring to date. He's gonna want another couple of rings for his legacy.

So, you think that someone will take a 33 yo player, who will make $18M/year for the next two years?

A player who was healthy but only dressed for ONE game this year on a non-playoff team. A player who played only 56 games the year before and shot under 40% from the field.

Yep, teams are lining up to get Deng.

BTW, the Lakers have been trying to move him for most of the last two years.

No. But that doesn’t mean it’s impossible.

C because he plays for the spurs

I had heard Kawhi got a third opinion and was told to shut it down. Now rumors are trickling out that it was more than that until they found an opinion they liked. No idea if that is true but the whole thing continues to be crazy.

F you zaza.

DeAndre Jordan opting out of Clips contract. Last of the " big three" in LA. Does he go to Mavs this time or somewhere else?
