Immigration Reform

That’s what happens when you try to work with the Mdmh’s of the world.
Your Dems are actually Republicans, you never negotiate from a point of strength even when you have the leverage, and you're complicit in shifting the overton window to the right every time Republicans take power. You all fold faster than Superman on laundry day. But please, explain to me how necessary it is for us to fund Trumps wall, give a shit load more money to ICE, and basically overturn the Legalization and Naturalization Act of 1965 to deny legal immigrants of color. All in order to partially restore funding for CHIP which Republican congress just recently stopped.

Democrats like Louis Gossett Jr., for some sad fucking reason, think it's a good strategy to compromise on every platform and belief before they even come to the bargaining table, in some hopelessly naive belief that Republicans are just going to be reasonable and accept the first offer. When you consistently only get a quarter on the dollar it's no fucking mystery why the most needy constituencies are dissatisfied.

without being able to control your borders, no immigration reform, or even policy, makes much sense
Having a physical border with a 2nd world country that's 1000 miles longer than the great wall of China makes it impossible to control the border. What can be done is to balance the ingress/egress in a reasonable humanitarian manner with a positive economic cost/benefit ratio.

Congress Dems don't believe that DACA/Dreamers are a popular enough issue to shutdown the government over, and I agree with that. My gripe is that Dems should have a clearer and longer list of popular demands. It would have made for much better messaging, and it would have been a better bargaining position. A promise from Mitch McTurtle is fucking worthless, anyone with a brain knows that. He's going to kick the can down to Paul Ryan, and a potential government shutdown will be even less popular then as it is now.

Why is the southern physical border the top priority?

And CHIP funding was already part of the Republican deal well before the government shutdown. Republicans didn't make a better offer, Dems just backed down in the face of potentially being held responsible for the shutdown. The only Dem gain was a McConnell promise to address DACA in 2 weeks. If CHIP funding was the goal, then a shutdown isn't even necessary - that deal is already on the table, Wall funding/legal immigration limits for CHIP

Y'all should find the wall so they can't run on it again. Not a lick of sense in the Democratic Party.

yeah spend taxpayer billions on a worthless project that nobody wants except frightened uneducated whites, ginned up by GOP fear-mongering, just for political win!!!!!!!!!!

genius way to govern. you are a child

At least they get to govern since they win. Do it before 2018 and WTF do pubs run on?

Palma is actually right, it was one of the reasons floated that trump advisors sabotaged a deal including a Wall because once it’s gain it’s gone from the equation.

guns, children ripped from wombs, more tax cuts, welfare, gays and transexuals raping your kids, ISIS comin' to git 'ya, inner-city blacks comin' to git ya

There is plenty of unreasonable fear to instill in anti-progressive white people from the South and the heartland to run on.

Youngstown man, spared deportation recently, arrested pending deportation

"We were ready to go before," she said. "We sold our house, we had plane tickets and were prepared to leave (for Amman, Jordan) when they said we did not have to. Then they do this. Are they deliberately trying to be cruel?"

Fidaa then asked that she and her husband be permitted to leave the country on their own, instead of him being jailed until ICE deported him.

Adi came to the United States in 1979 on a visa and later married an American citizen. Based on that marriage, he was given a "green card," which allowed him to stay in the United States. They were divorced less than a year later.

After the divorce he moved to Youngstown, where he started several businesses, including two gas stations. He and his second wife, Fidaa Musleh, moved to Brazil for three years. When they returned to the United States, his green card was taken from him because he had been out of the country for too long.

Fidaa Musleh tried to sponsor her husband for a new "green card," but was denied because immigration officials said his first marriage was "a sham." His first wife initially signed an affidavit to that effect, but then later signed a second affidavit confirming that the marriage was legitimate and said she was pressured by agents to say it was a sham.

Leopold contends his first marriage was valid, and noted that Adi never had a chance in court to prove it.

Krasner will seek to prevent deportation of immigrants accused of nonviolent crimes

Krasner acknowledged that he cannot stop federal immigration authorities from operating in the city. But he said this proposal — which also will seek to provide visas or other protections for immigrants who are victims of or witnesses to crimes — would help bolster citywide trust in local law enforcement.

And Arnold, formerly an immigration attorney, said that the idea was not to wipe away criminal charges because of someone’s immigration status — but to evaluate whether changes in charging or sentencing decisions could provide an outcome similar to one that a citizen would face, without punitive immigration-related consequences.

Chuck Schumer grew a backbone and withdrew the offer to fund the wall. Good.

Not good. Silly Schumer withdrew because of the backlash from his far left Dem base, meanwhile leaving his moderate Dems in the lurch who are up for reelection in November. They are going to get their asses kicked as DACA is protecting illegals without giving the military and the Wall people what they want. They had their chance in 2008. They lost because of no backbone. Now it is up to Trump to run the table and kick ass thru 2020.
