Immigration Reform

What a non-story. Dude was here illegally and tried to legalize through marriage, which isn't a free pass. You can become eligible for a green card through employment or marriage, but that doesn't mean you get an automatic waiver for your illegal presence. When the process comes to determine actual eligibility for the green card itself (as opposed to just the green card immigrant visa), the first thing they do is tally up your illegal presence and look at your manner of entry. He was right to be nervous and obviously knew more than his husband. Now they're scrambling and putting in a baseless claim for asylum out of desperation. This isn't a Trump thing. This is how it has been for years.

it does seem a little shitty to arrest a guy trying to do things legally, albeit as an end-around.

hilarious when businesses/corps use legal nonsense to sidestep regulations and laws but when humans do it it's GTFO

“A bunch of people we rounded up went missing, you say? Well, they’re not innocent.” -Hitler, probably

This happened during Obama admin:

https://www.washingtonpost.com/local/social-issues/aclu-immigrant-minors-routinely-mistreated-in-custody-during-obama-years/2018/05/23/b7cb31a8-5e00-11e8-a4a4-c070ef53f315_story.html?noredirect=on&utm_term=.aa02f56796e7

Unaccompanied minors who crossed the U.S.-Mexico border during a historic wave of migration earlier this decade were repeatedly beaten, sexually abused, and deprived of food and medical care by federal border agents, according to an American Civil Liberties Union report released Wednesday.

About 30,000 pages of documents obtained by the ACLU through an open-records lawsuit depict a gantlet of alleged mistreatment for the tens of thousands of children who arrived mainly from Central America between 2009 and 2014, during the Obama administration. Many were seeking asylum in the United States after fleeing death threats and violence in their homelands.

U.S. Customs and Border Protection agents allegedly used stun guns on the minors for amusement or punishment, kicked them and threatened to either rape or kill them. The ACLU report — which is based on emails, complaint forms and investigative reports — says agents routinely kept minors in detention cells with frigid temperatures, forcing them to sleep on concrete floors.

In one case, an agent allegedly pushed his stun gun into a boy’s stomach, shocking him, then kneed him twice in the same spot.

In another, a 16-year-old girl being held just outside Phoenix claimed that an agent “forcibly spread her legs and touched her private parts so hard that she screamed.”

One boy was allegedly forced to strip down to his boxers inside one of the cold detention cells, widely known among undocumented immigrants as “hieleras,” or “freezers.” Another teen who had swam across the Rio Grande claimed he was placed in a frigid cell while still wearing wet clothes.

A 16-year-old girl held in a California detention center with the baby she had brought with her recounted how an agent stood at the cell door and calmly threatened to rape her and then place her child in foster care.

"Trump's deportation & murder force" :rulz:
Yes, they're fucking fascist trash - the worst of the worst. Literally. The physical and mental standards for ICE acceptance are needfully lower than any other federal law enforcement unit. Fucking fat racist ass mall cops. They're an embarrasment to our nation and the political goal should be nothing less than total abolishment of that department.

The shooting was by Customs and Border Patrol, not ICE.

The hostile border between Trump and the head of DHS

Trump is wildly impatient with Kirstjen Nielsen and seeming clueless about what she can and can't do. Suprising I know. Also, this:

The night before Trump delivered his first speech to Congress in February 2017, he huddled with senior adviser Jared Kushner and Miller in the Oval Office to talk immigration. The president reluctantly agreed with suggestions that he strike a gentler tone on immigration in the speech.

Trump reminded them the crowds loved his rhetoric on immigrants along the campaign trail. Acting as if he were at a rally, he recited a few made-up Hispanic names and described potential crimes they could have committed, such as rape or murder. Then, he said, the crowds would roar when the criminals were thrown out of the country — as they did when he highlighted crimes by illegal immigrants at his rallies, according to a person present for the exchange and another briefed on it later. Miller and Kushner laughed.

Yeah, about that 1500 "lost" children... https://www.nationalreview.com/corner/migrant-children-lost-federal-agents/

You all are clueless. Totally clueless. Just buy into the bullshit party line that has zero interest in immigration laws because doing so turns the country into a single party state. Democrats used to at least give lip service to immigration enforcement. Now they don't even do that, and Trump gives them a convenient excuse to "resist."

I'll ignore that it was conveniently pointed out that BP was the culprit in this particular case, and that he may very well have had sufficient reasons for using lethal force, but who do you expect to enforce immigration laws on the interior if you abolish ICE in your great universe? Maybe smart kids like you? Maybe AILA?

Really? From your own article. The government didn't vet the sponsors good enough: "They were placed with sponsors that HHS vetted. It’d obviously be better if HHS could locate all of the sponsors in its follow-up" who subsequently lost track of the kids. I assume the government is compensating these sponsors, as most governments do. If not, not vetting well enough is a dual-sin; the government, and the sponsors. So, yea, it's still the governemt's c0-fault as determining who the "foster" is in this scenario.
