North Korea Nuclear Ready

Jhmd developed a case of whatsboutism in November. Before that nada.

Trump hypothetically blaming Obama after Trump starts a nuclear war thus tanking the markets (and you know, starting a nuclear war) has a real life Obama/Bush corollary?
It is just like Obama blaming bush for handing him a country on the verge of economic collapse.

Well, I mean, you can't dispute this wasn't true. It took Bush 8 years to take the strongest economy since post WWII and cause the Great Recession.

Well that's the least shocking news. Trump probably should try more putin sucking though

"Ukraine isn't Russia. And for what anyone knows, a fat kid on his bed in his parent's basement could have sold the rockets to North Korea"

I realized last night that I am in the safest place on Earth regarding NK nukes. Well, if they are able to be accurately targeted.

Dennis Rodman lives in either Corona Del Mar or Newport Beach. No way Kim will nuke his best buddy.

SUCKERS!!

BTW, we should be recruiting Rodman's son. He was MVP of his league as a soph. He's a 6'4 SG with great range and will probably grow some more.

Seems like China is actually imposing serious sanctions on NK, and fatboy has backed down from his nuclear threats. Does Trump deserve credit?

Does Trump deserve credit for creating the atmosphere that led to Kim doing more tests and expanding their capabilities more than at any time in history?

How is it Obama's fault that Kim acted differently as soon as Trump took office?

As usual you make no sense.

Easy to make an argument that because Obama took such a hands off approach of diplomacy with NK, Kim was emboldened to act as he did because he was able to develop a capable nuclear program under the Obama administration.

well, let's take it easy on the blame game...https://www.nytimes.com/2017/02/17/world/asia/north-korea-nuclear-threat.html?mcubz=0

"In 1999, George J. Tenet, then director of the Central Intelligence Agency, said he could hardly overstate his concern about North Korea’s program, warning that the Taepodong-1 missile, with a reach of up to 1,243 miles, could deliver bomb payloads to Alaska and Hawaii."

"The explosive force of North Korea’s first nuclear device, tested in October 2006, was less than a kiloton, which is 1,000 tons of TNT. Its second test, in 2009, had more than double that force."

it has been the American way to turn our back on NK for a long time.

That makes no sense. He didn't act under Obama. NK has probably done more and more serious provocative acts in the short time Trump has been in office than the last three POTUS combined.

RJ:

Respectfully, I'm not sure that your assertion that "NK has probably done more and more serious provocative acts in the short time Trump has been in office than the last three POTUS combined" is necessarily accurate. By way of reference, here is a link to an April 2, 2013 article by the BBC: http://www.bbc.com/news/world-asia-pacific-11811861 that provides a timeline of provocative acts by PRNK up to point in that time. In any event, do you think that it might be possible that the reason why PRNK has "probably done more and more serious provocative acts in the short time Trump has been in office" is because it now feels emboldened to do so as a result of its apparent "nuclear readiness"? (the title of this thread)

Taking action may result in serious negative consequences, both anticipated and unanticipated. Likewise, not taking action may also result in serious negative consequences, both anticipated and unanticipated, particularly so if you do nothing long enough that it becomes too late to do something. Being able to accurately identify the real problem, accurately assess what can and can't be done with the resources available and the circumstances at hand (which constantly change), accurately anticipate and gauge the potential costs and benefits from acting or not acting, and then make the best decisions possible at the time (all of which are based upon incomplete information) is supremely difficult.

Note that I am not taking shots at any President, past or present. We can all throw rocks and criticize with the benefit of hindsight, but unless and until we are faced with the awesome responsibility of being the President (and have access to the information and intelligence they have) it may very well be unfair to criticize Trump, Obama, Bush or Clinton (or earlier Presidents) for what was done or not done. Most of the easy problems were solved a long time ago. It is the "wicked" problems that remain.
