Welp, here comes the collapse, you can just feel it. Korver carving them up off screens and drives (!!), JC back on the bench and relying too much on outside shooting. Gotta get Schroder back in the game with 5 fouls or else they will choke this away after leading by double digits the entire game.
 
Another double-double for the young buck...now he's earning his stripes inside on the box out...going to the line for two big throws.

Hits both, 12-12-2 with 2:55 left.

Hawks can't stop Korver. Sigh.

And the choke continues...piss poor D and no movement on offense. Down to 6 with 1:19 left and Cav ball.

Deja vu all over again.

Korver MISSES!! Wonders never cease. JC with the rebound, but turns it over on the other end with a happy pivot foot. Uh oh.

D-Wade is no longer clutch. Neither is Kent Bazemore...ugghh. Too much golf in the off-season.

LBJ with two FTs to pull within 5. 29 secs left. What a dumb foul early in the clock!!

Tyron Lue scheming like a tiny wizard in the huddle now...Hawks in trouble. Can't inbounds (LUE MAGIC!!!), call T/O.

Schroder fouled after the successful inbounds, will shoot 2. Makes both. It really is too bad Dennis sucks so bad, eh Biff??

That should do it barring some crazy miracle. Hawks up 7 with less than 25 secs left.

OH FFS, Korver AGAIN for 3!! And Hawks mess up the inbounds under the bucket. Premature jocularity (not that I'm all that thrilled to be watching the Hawks). CLE ball with 21.7 left and a chance to cut it to 2 or 1 and then foul. Oh vey.

Easy bucket off the inbounds and a 2 pt game...Hawks get it in to Schroder who gets fouled at half court. Will shoot 2.

Makes the first...Lue shrugs. Makes the 2nd, Korver to surely hit some circus 3. Nope, LBJ for easy two. Another foul on the inbounds after a dangerous entry. Oooofff.

Now some dude named Isaiah Taylor bricks both FT's, LBJ dishes to Channing Frye (?) for a 3, misses, rebound tip, nearly goes, but Prince may have altered it by Wade. Time runs out before Wade heaves it to Korver who no doubt would have stroked it for the win if there had still been time. Phew! Hawks escape and Cleveland realizes they kinda suck letting that happen against Atlanta.

Collins is going to be really good for a lot of years in the NBA. Built for the way the game is played now.
 
Not so good last night. 8 and 1 with 5 fouls in 16 minutes. Really needs to stop the dumb fouls that have plagued him at wake and now in Atlanta.
 
Kyrie made him look foolish in the SC highlights.

Tyler Cavanaugh's debut with Atlanta Hawks: 5 flights, 30 hours, 1st NBA win

Syracuse, N.Y. -- In 30 absurd hours, Tyler Cavanaugh went from nearly playing a G League game against the Maine Red Claws to checking into a game against LeBron James and the Cleveland Cavaliers.

"It was absolutely nuts!," Cavanaugh said in a text message this morning, after he finally was able to get some sleep.

Cavanaugh, the former Jamesville-DeWitt and George Washington basketball star, played the first NBA game of his career on Sunday. He logged three minutes and grabbed a defensive rebound. His injury-depleted Atlanta Hawks defeated the Cavaliers 117-115. Then Cavanaugh, a 6-foot-9 forward, flew with the Hawks back to Atlanta, where he awoke this morning to the idea that he is currently on an NBA roster.

"My first game in the NBA and we were able to get a win," Cavanaugh said. "A great experience that has left me hungry for more!"

His agent, Keith Glass, said Cavanaugh was the first NBA call-up from the G League this season. Cavanaugh, who went to training camp with the Hawks and was waived on Oct. 13, agreed to a two-way deal with Atlanta over the weekend. Two-way deals allow NBA rosters to expand to 17 players; those on two-way contracts play the majority of their minutes with the NBA team's G League affiliate, though players can be called up as many as 45 times. Each time Cavanaugh gets a call-up, he makes more money.

The Hawks are dealing with a roster of injured players, including Ersan Ilyasova, Miles Plumlee and Mike Muscala at the center/forward spots. Glass has been vocal about his wariness of two-way contracts, which bind players to NBA teams and don't allow them to sign with another team if they have break-out G League performances.

But Glass said the current construct of NBA rosters made him rethink his approach to two-way deals. Teams are filling all 15 roster spots and then supplementing their squad with two players on two-way deals. (NBA teams can only carry two two-way guys.) That configuration, Glass said, allows for little maneuverability for G League players.

"And look, Atlanta does like him," Glass said. "It's exciting for us. And it came a lot sooner than we anticipated."

Cavanaugh scored 19 points and had 11 rebounds in 35 minutes the Erie BayHawks' Friday night loss at the buzzer in their first G League game this season.

On Saturday, Cavanaugh and the BayHawks took two flights from Erie to reach Maine, where the Red Claws awaited. Cavanaugh was on the bus to the gym for a team practice when he got a phone call from Glass.

Glass was watching his grandson's baseball game that afternoon when the Hawks called. A deal was struck. A couple hours later, Cavanaugh was on a plane to Cleveland via a stopover in Charlotte. The next afternoon, he wore an Atlanta Hawks uniform and participated in a 3 p.m. game against the Cavaliers. Afterward, he boarded the team flight back to Atlanta.

"It's like an out-of-body thing," Glass said. "That's the way the league works and you gotta be ready for it."

Good for him. Dude works super hard, always has. Not the most talented player in the world, but even if that's as far as his career goes, impressive. He was regularly getting beat for rebounds by Travis Mckie in practice.
 
Keith Glass is still working? He represented a couple of my friends from high school who were in and out of the NBA, and he seemed old then.
 
I’m more surprised that Tyler Cavanuagh has played more than 1 minute in a regular season NBA game than John Collins success at this point.
 
i'm surprised Cavanaugh played in the G-League.
 
People forget the night Cavanaugh outscored Jabari.
