Wake Football - it's happening

Deal. Mods gotta enforce.

So what Townie is saying is he wants some sort of physical (or in this case, electronic) obstruction erected to keep unwelcome persons from entering a given space. Sounds like a reasonable idea to me.

Crazy that we really haven't played that well and our oline hasn't pushed anyone around and yet we win the turnover battle and win easily three weeks on a row.

And with this being the worst appy state team in forever we could do that again this week.

We must have the easiest schedule for the first four games of any power 5 conference

The OL was fine versus BC.

It's weird to spend the week finding different ways to talk about how good we are. Even our best teams had glaring weaknesses that our strengths just overcame.

Good observation. Don't see any fundamental weakness in this team. Maybe not all superlative, but no glaring weaknesses.

Right. And the weaknesses of our good teams were apparent even against weak competition.

We've got skill position depth. The OL is solid. Wolford is making good decisions. We've got DL depth. D is stout overall. Specialists are improving. Weaver and Maggio both had strong games against USU. obviously the return game is as good as it's been in a long time.

There's still time for weaknesses to emerge against better teams. No doubt. But this looks like a team that will be solid across the board and good at some things. No shame being a good team that loses to better teams.

Yeah, we've seemed to be as complete a team as remember in a long time. The linebacking concerns me a little bit, as does the secondary to a degree. Offensively, I still question our ability to run the ball against a really stout defense, but we'll find out about that soon. I really like how Clawson is building this team though. You don't want to put too much stock in the Utah State game, but 3 years ago they were manhandling us at their place, Saturday we manhandled them. Sure, the rosters are not the same, but Clawson talked about how Utah State usually has an older, mature roster. So, for us to do that to a team made up of 4th and 5th year players says a lot to how far we've come in a few years I think.

Funny you mention that. When I saw this picture BobHWS posted, I thought the USU player looked like a grown man in his late 20s.

We have played well against really inferior teams. Lets not get too carried away. I agree it has been fun, but I am going to withhold judgment until at least after the game on Saturday

How often have we consistently played well against really inferior teams though?

Bud, we're talking about App State, not FSU. No one is deluded enough to think we're in contention for another ACC title right now.

All wins are not equal. Winning alone doesn't show anything, but winning big over bad teams (and well exceeding the projected line) is a solid indication that you are better than anticipated. So far Wake has vastly exceeded projections.

I wonder if Wake has ever won its first three games of the football season by 20+ points.

We've played all 3 of our opponents within the last 3 years I think. In every case, the games we played against Presby, BC and Utah State we all much better than the last time we played them. Last time we played Presby we won 31-7, BC beat us last year, and Utah State beat us 38-24 (not even that close). Rosters are different I know, but I think that is some indication of the growth of our program under Clawson.

I've been telling people I'm not used to Wake winning it's first 3, and definitely not by an average of 35 points. I feel like a Bama fan or something...

Our biggest weaknesses so far are LBs, OL, and CBs, probably in that order. Our safeties and DL help cover up for the other two spots on D, and Wolford's running ability has helped mask the relative weakness of the OL. That being said, the OL is clearly better than it has been in any year since at least 2011, if not 2007. I also think the CBs will improve over time this season.

I would if this was the 2006 ACC. Hell, I'd give us a shot if not for Clemson's dominance.
