A stronger Wake makes Brown's recruiting job that much harder. So he will do what he can to make Wake less of a threat to attract good recruits. He may not directly try to crush Wake's progress, but slowing or stopping it is to his advantage. So it may be an indirect effort, rather than a direct one.
 
Other than hiring known cheaters, how does hiring Galloway and Bateman affect Wake specifically?

It doesn't, but hopefully Wake will benefit from it from a recruiting aspect ie, these are the type of people who are recruiting you at Carolina. Is this who you want to play for? May resonate more with the parents than the players though.

Which raises another point. Today's recruits were in elementary or middle school when Mack Brown last coached a game. That's an eternity for a 17 year old kid. Yes, he has some name recognition from ESPN but the perception, by at least some, is that he's well past his prime. Certainly would be a tool I would use if I'm Dave Clawson.
 
Good point. Clawson needs to come up with some “Mack Brown’s so old” jokes.
 
Mack's main concerns need to be Dave Doeren and David Cutcliffe. Fedora could not beat his chief rivals lately and that was a primary reason for his ouster.

You do know the coach recruiting your son participated in a theft of a Wake Forest playbook and was fined $25 grand. Mamas don't like low character thieves in their homes.

How will they ever know? Mainstream North Carolina media won’t tell that story.
 
Kindof like how UNC basketball fell off for their cheating, and Penn State for their transgressions, and .......

People just don't seem to care if they are going to a shady situation. And Galloway is a damn good recruiter. So maybe pump the breaks on being able to recruit against UNC because they have a bunch of cheaters. Hiring a few more really doesn't change their reputation-- they were already cheaters, and I'm not sure that it mattered anyways.
