Crisis in Puerto Rico

$32 billion seems to be a small number nowadays. I also imagine we can find a way to break up hurricanes through #science. Surprised we haven't already, in fact.

How many feet does the sea level need to rise to fuck over NYC permanently?

32 billion in NYC, doesn’t include Jersey, Long Island, etc.

Most of lower Manhattan and Brooklyn are fucked with just a few inches of sea level rise. I don’t know specific numbers.

Puerto Rico's Healthcare is in Dire Condition, Three Weeks After Maria

Matching resources with needs remains a problem. The Puerto Rico Department of Health has sent just 82 patients to the Comfort over the past six days, even though the ship can serve 250. The Comfort's 800 medical personnel were treating just seven patients on Monday.

The mayor of Canóvanas, in the northeast part of the island, reported over the weekend that several people in her city had died of leptospirosis, the bacterial disease Mr. Bastardo is believed to have caught from the floodwaters. The Puerto Rico Department of Health said Sunday night that several cases were being evaluated, but that lab tests had not yet come back to confirm the diagnosis. At the same time, the agency urged people to drink only bottled water and to wear protective shoes near bodies of water that could be contaminated with animal urine.

At the mobile hospital on Sunday, Luz Alverio was with her 72-year-old sister, Irma, whose legs are swollen and discolored from infected insect bites. "People didn’t die in the winds," Luz Alverio said. "They are dying now."

Fake news.

PR is FINE. Their only real problems are pre-existing ones. Poor infrastructure and debt.

People survived for eons without electricity or clean public water...not really needed! Whimps and babies just want everything done for them. Sad!

Sandy is the second most expensive hurricane in history - a total of $75 billion worth of damages. Katrina came in at $108 billion.

I don't know if you heard, but things were bad before the H's.

Its crazy, I mean people are dying from rare zoonotic diseases from drinking contaminated water.

Let the market take care of things.

Small government, less regulation and taxes. That’s always the solution.

It takes balls to call for tax cuts for the rich while Americans are out of power and clean water.

Nah. Lowering taxes invariably gins up the economy and floats all boats. Especially lowering taxes on the wealthy.

Such obvious solutions don’t really take courage.

Seriously! Have any of you Libs been to Kansas!?!?

Yep. Them Adelie penguins down in Antarctica need tax relief too.

Poor bastards.
