Crisis in Puerto Rico

This administration is a national disgrace. And if you are stupid enough to fall for the distraction of kneeling football players instead of American citizens living in a disaster zone then you really a stupid rube.

The military helping US citizens is exactly right. There should be full mobilization of this 700 billion dollar force to help what is essentially a war zone. It's a disgrace what's occurring to people that are just an after thought to this administration.

According to Twitter the top arguments against people blaming trump are: 1. You want this to be his Katrina but it isn’t (no further data given to support), and 2. What are you doing to help (equating the one criticizing with leader of fema and military)

Holy fuck, President Dipshit's tweets this morning. Wish we could strand his dumb ass on a storm ravaged island for a while, make him drink cow piss. What an asshole.

Dude trump basically tweeted calling the PR lazy Mexicans not doing anything to help omg

The mayor of San Juan went in front of cameras near tears to beg for help for the people in Puerto Rico that are without power, water, or food. Trump, from his golf resort in NJ (where he's busy funneling taxpayer money into his own pockets), complains that she is being mean to him. FFS

Donations can't make up for a federal government failing its people.

Trump really is the worlds biggest snowflake.

This is damning:

Lost weekend: How Trump’s time at his golf club hurt the response to Maria

Administration officials would not say whether the president spoke with any other top officials involved in the storm response while in Bedminster, N.J. He spent much of his time over those four days fixated on his escalating public feuds with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un, with fellow Republicans in Congress and with the National Football League over protests during the national anthem.

In Puerto Rico, meanwhile, the scope of the devastation was becoming clearer. Virtually the entire island was without power and much of it could be for weeks, officials estimated, and about half of the more than 3 million residents did not have access to clean water. Gas was in short supply, airports and ports were in disrepair, and telecommunications infrastructure had been destroyed.

Even though local officials had said publicly as early as Sept. 20, the day of the storm, that the island was "destroyed," the sense of urgency didn't begin to penetrate the White House until Monday, when images of the utter destruction and desperation — and criticism of the administration's response — began to appear on television, one senior administration official said.

The administration still fumbled at key moments after stepping up its response. A week after landfall, Trump still had not waived the Jones Act, a law that barred foreign-flagged vessels from delivering aid to Puerto Rico. Such a waiver had been granted for previous hurricanes this year.

Asked why his administration had delayed in issuing the waiver, Trump said Wednesday that "a lot of shippers and . . . a lot of people that work in the shipping industry" didn't want it lifted.

Meanwhile the mayor Trump is attacking is currently living in a shelter because her home was flooded.

What was striking to me was to read about our response to Haiti and the Japanese tsunami and how quickly and thoroughly the US mobilized. By comparison, it definitely appears the response here has been subpar.

Tweeting from the golf course disparaging and neglecting a US territory that is in dire need.

And Fox News Republicans said Obama hated America?

What an embarrassment.

He doesn't know how to lead anything. Jesus GOP, get him out.

LOL. The GOP didn't vote him in to help an island of Latinos devastated by a hurricane. This is exactly what they wanted. Did you think they only hate Latino immigrants? The fact that the mayor of San Juan is a woman is icing on the cake.

Why does he talk over and over and over again about Puerto Rico having to "repay" for rebuilding their commonwealth, but NEVER talks about TX or FL having to pay for the aid they are getting?

Last weekend, Trump had ZERO minutes on his schedule for Puerto Rico but had time to do dozens of tweets about the NFL.

I keep forgetting most Puerto Ricans speak Spanish and are brown and black.

Maybe someone should tell Trump that if 500,000 adult Puerto Ricans move to FL, he'll lose the state in 2020. They are American citizens. If they move to FL, their votes will count.

Why does he talk over and over and over again about Puerto Rico having to "repay" for rebuilding their commonwealth, but NEVER talks about TX or FL having to pay for the aid they are getting

Well, Texans and Floridians pay federal taxes.
