centrism is a hell of a drug.
It's one this whole country needs to take a big old bong rip of before we go off the deep end. Actually shit it's to late.

If yesterday's Alabama Senate race had been a House election, the Republicans, who got *fewer* votes, would have won 6 out of 7 seats, and the Democrats, who *won* the vote statewide, only 1 out of 7. That's how gerrymandered Alabama is.
My parents live in section 8 housing, my dad works 60 hours a week with no overtime or benefits, with an Obamacare plan he cant afford, my mother is on medicare, and can't work more than 20 hours a week without losing her benefits, my grandmother is on medicare, I work 60 hours a week with no benefits or time off, i'll probably never be able to pay off my student loans or buy a house, my wife works at a hospital with no childcare benefits and only 4 weeks of "temporary disability" 60% pay pregnancy leave, and I just lost my tax deductions for my self-employment and all our student loans. I work with the low income disabled community, as does my wife, mostly POC. I'm not asking you to cry for me, but consider that my economic situation is much more common than most of yours. These complaints I have with the political status quo are much more salient to my life than they are to yours, I assume. That's not an excuse for me to be an asshole to any of you, but it is an explanation as to why I am so...passionate about it.
there is a complete lack of moral imagination
This statement assumes that there is a will to be progressive. The Democratic Party has turned into a party for socially liberal people who make $100,000k+ year who need working class votes to win elections, but don't care an ounce about the people casting the votes.
"How does your student loan debt make you feel? Tell us in 3 emojis or less."
This is a function of the way political parties are so completely focused on campaign donations and raising money. There are two ways to win votes: buying them during campaigns with the money your party raises via donations or earning them through your legislative accomplishments to help people who then want to vote do you so that you’ll do more helpful things. The first way is so much easier.
Meh, one rich democrat could buy like 10 house seats by building some jobs in the boonies and moving people out there to live for a couple years
it's not like republicans all of a sudden just started electing folks at the edge of republican ideology. they gradually moved there, and (for now) they control virtually everything.
but mdmh throws hissy fits because the strategy of democrats isn't to gradually move to the edge. he wants all or nothing.
what a maroon.
Or, if this thread is any indication, not.

why couldn’t you get a better job with a wake degree in your pocket?

If your dad works more than 40 hours a week and is a non-exempt employee (not salaried), he is owed overtime pay under the Fair Labor Standards Act. If he's self-employed or working for multiple employers, that wouldn't apply.
My dad is a salaried employee specifically so he cant get overtime. He gets moved from hourly to salaried multiple times a year depending upon the "business needs" where he works.
