Slaughter in vegas

People go crazy when they're old and lonely. This situation isn't going to get any better with almost no one having saved for retirement.

Yes. The makeup of the SC doesn't matter for legislation purposes. They had the Presidency and the majority of Congress for two fucking years and, as far as I know, didn't even attempt any comprehensive gun control. They didn't know they had healthcare votes until they tried to push it through, why didn't they do the same for gun control? It's not like they can only do one at a time, they had 2 years to do something and didn't do jack. To be fair, Trump has had much less time with his majority than Obama had with his. Both parties are cowards and are too easily paid off.

They had a zero vote margin of error on legislation. ACA was a huge legislative undertaking. I don't think it was a controversial decision for Dem leaders to look at the make up of their caucus and determine that the likelihood of passing comprehensive gun reform was unlikely, especially any reform that had a chance of surviving a legal challenge.

It's also a ridiculous narrative because to the extent Dems couldn't get votes for gun control it was because no votes in their caucus were either scared of republican challengers or there as a result of republican challengers in conservative states.

This is a left/right issue. Stop pretending otherwise.

Yeah with some training, I'm sure last night someone in the crowd would have picked off the 32nd floor shooter with a handgun they brought for protection.

I was responding to the comments about gun buybacks, which also have nothing to do with the situation in Las Vegas.

The best thing to do there is to run and get out of the line of fire. No handgun would have made a difference there.

I realize that my opinion may be unpopular on this forum, but how exactly do "buybacks" actually help? First, the government can't buy back something they never owned. Second, most of the weapons are turned in by the very people that are potential targets of gun violence, leaving them without a way to defend themselves. Criminals aren't turning these guns in- it's little old ladies that don't want their deceased husband's gun in the house because they never learned how to properly handle or shoot it. And they turn it in for a fraction of what it is worth (with some exceptions). Gun "buybacks" are nothing but wastes of tax dollars that make local politicians feel good without actually doing anything productive.

Perhaps a better option is for the local police to offer to train the public to properly use a firearm, learn good gun safety, and respect the power that it represents so the everybody won't be so crazy when the see one. And if they still don't want a gun in the house, let dealers come from outside the city, where gun violence isn't an issue, and buy them at fair market value.

There's nothing evil about a gun. It is a tool that can be used for evil or good, depending on who is using it.

Yes - the real issue is that people go "crazy" when they see a gun.

And gun violence is only an issue in cities.

And then the cherry on top:

The buy backs won't work is the same excuse that single payer won't work, for some reason the experiments have been done on other countries and surprise surprise it worked.

Maybe we aren't praying hard enough, or the right way? We seem to be thinking a lot...that's good. Problem must be with the prayers.

After the next one, when people say "thoughts and prayers"...let's REALLY pray. That should do it.

Or no guns in casinos on The Strip. Wynn's casinos are making plenty of money of doing this.

There's way too much traffic in an out of Vegas to have metal detectors everywhere. I mean like 30-60 people per minute are going in and out of the hotel rooms. I've been at the Wynn plenty of times and never did I have to go through a metal detector.

You have metal detectors at every door. You can't check in with guns.

Once it's in place, it will be very easy to do.

If Wynn's can do it when nobody else does and makes tons of money, why can't everyone else do it?

what about a soft-spoken but rugged sheriff who intercepts all comers at the city limits and demands they turn over all weapons
