Slaughter in vegas

Hard to believe that there could be an accomplice without some political or social motive

Agreed. It seems well planned, too. He had to know there would be massive crowds and had to arrange a room and Mandalay with a balcony that overlooked the area. Not to mention bringing in a gun with enough ammo to pull that off. It feels extra weird because, as I'm sure a few here have, I've been in Mandalay. I was going to look at flights to Vegas this week to go out there next month.

Wow...

The article I posted said the shooter had multiple firearms in his room at the 32nd floor of the Mandalay Bay.

Casinos are some of the most secure places in the world. How on earth does someone get multiple firearms and many rounds to his hotel room without someone suspecting something?

I've never gone through any security in a hotel in the U.S., nor any casino. You could bring in anything you want in your luggage.

Oh sure. But there is plenty of security. I bet we will see more metal detectors now.

Unfortunately once the hotel realized that shots were being fired it probably took a few (5 or so min) to get their security team together and get to the floor they had identified. Sounds like they waited for the LVPD to do the entry into the room. Given the video this looks like the shooting happened in total for 7-10 min. I don't doubt that they got there ASAP but with the firepower this guy had there was more than enough time for this dude to do a ton of damage. Absolutely terrifying story.

I'm not an expert by any means, nor have I been in the military, so take this with a grain of salt. But having watched the Vietnam War documentary recently, that gun being fired sounds more like some of those fully auto heavy machine guns with the belt fed ammo than an AR 15 or something that is typically used in these shootings.

Awful, awful tragedy.

Just sickening to wake up to this sort of news.

Ive read some opinions that was a fully automated gun as well. Such a horror. The world is an evil place. Hurt for those families affected.

I haven't watched the video, nor will I (I mistakenly saw the video of the older man being shot point blank on that Facebook live feed a few months back and that made me sick on my stomach), but it depends on what the weapon was chambered in. You can't sneak through any sort of heavy artillery gun to a casino. They are too bulky and obvious. My guess is that he had illegally modified his weapon to be fully auto and had something like a .458 SOCOM on an AR platform. Those rounds will produce, at least to a degree, that sound you're thinking of here. Also if he had an AR chambered in .458 or something similar, this was no mistake or a man gone crazy. That's an insanely deadly setup and requires a lot of training and use to control a weapon like that in full auto.

walk in door with duffel bag,
get on elevator,
open window,

hell, the bellman might have even done it for him

Although I doubt he did, he could have legally purchased a fully auto gun from a class 3 dealer. They are crazy expensive (usually 10k and up) and require a lengthy and thorough background check depending on the state. I am not familiar with Nevada gun laws.

Not that it matters, but it didn't sound like a full auto to me. There are a lot of fucked up people in this country.

Nevada has some of the most lax gun laws in the country.

what? this video doesn't sound like automatic fire to you?

http://www.cnn.com/videos/us/2017/1...cnn/video/playlists/las-vegas-strip-shooting/

there's another video from while Aldean is still playing and the guy is firing for like 20 straight seconds

I watched a bit of it. That's, without question, a fully auto weapon. Rounds are being fired way too quickly for a single trigger pull. Also sounds like he had either a 50+ round magazine or he had a weapon that was fed with a belt magazine. Those are usually much larger weapons, so how in the hell would he get something like that in?

Sounds like full auto to me, even given how sound bounces around off buildings in Vegas. You can hear the slapback/reverb, which would be from the buildings. To me it sounds like he's emptying a clip into a bunch of sitting ducks and reloading.

Wow, this is truly sickening. I couldn't imagine how terrified those around and involved had to of been. My heart goes out to everyone involved.
