Official Charlotte Hornets Offseason Thread - Biz back, Monk out, stocking up on TP

I don't think so, I still maintain that the younger guys who need developing are just as good as the guys whose contracts we can't get rid of. Barring a miracle we aren't unloading Batum's contract, so he is on the team regardless and the roster is what it is. But I think Monk/Bacon give us a better chance to win right now even as they are developing, obviously we didn't win much lately with Batum having a big role.

Regarding Batum, the one thing that keeps jumping out at me is Melo. He clearly wants out of OKC, and his contract is expiring next year. No established FA is going to go there to play with Russ, it is clear that it just doesn't work. But Batum would actually be a great fit ... he has no desire to be top dog, he can defer and playmake to Westbrook and Adams and whatever third option they can find, and he'll be happy with Westbrook taking all the shots. Would OKC admit the situation and trade Melo for Batum? We would be stuck with Melo for a year, and he and D12 might kill each other, but it would clear up the cap situation really fast and show a commitment to Kemba.

That would be ideal. Charlotte could have both of the guys whose stats look great but always make their teams lose more once they arrive.

The rest of the NBA would thank us and it would help Charlotte tank for draft picks while getting butts in the seats.

Could have picked Kawhi at #11.

Could have picked Kobe at #11. Wait they did pick him at #13. :)

Bringing this back up for the draft. Nobody really moves the needle at #11 unless maybe Trae Young or Wendell Carter happens to fall. Both Bridges are meh, the latest Kentucky hyphen hasn't proved much, and Lonnie Walker is big boom or bust.

Rumor is that the Cavs are making a push for Kemba to entice Lebron to stay. Something like the #8 plus George Hill or JR Smith's expiring contracts. That makes zero sense to me. If they want an expiring contract, Kemba already is on one and is an exponentially better player than whoever they would get at #8 plus either of those bums. The entire reason they were previously talking about moving Kemba was to dump Batum, not because they don't like Kemba. Trading him for unknowns but still being stuck with Batum is the worst of all possibilities. Outside of Kemba, this is a franchise with zero sure things. You don't trade the one sure thing you have for more unknowns. He is the one guy they need to sign to a max and then deal with all the garbage around him.

Dwight to Brooklyn for Mozgov and two future seconds. Fuck you Kubchak.

Gotta think Kemba is getting traded at this point.

Has there ever been a player like Howard who has been consistently productive for playoff teams and is a possible HOFer yet continually traded for garbage?

That makes zero fucking sense. Dwight's contract was expiring after this coming season, and Mozgov has 2 years left. And Dwight is a significantly better player.

Your team wants to tank. What's so hard to understand?

Your team wants to tank. What's so hard to understand?

So why would you take on an extra year of an albatross contract? If you want to tank, you keep Dwight and let his contract expire, or hold him to the trade deadline in the hopes of getting a first rounder. If you think he is the on-court difference between tanking and not, then you stick him on the bench. This is not a trade about tanking, it is just a fucking awful trade.

Kupchak fucking loves Mozgov.

Timofey Mozgov
Russian basketball player
Timofey Pavlovich Mozgov is a Russian professional basketball player for the Brooklyn Nets of the National Basketball Association. Wikipedia
Born: July 16, 1986 (age 31 years), Russian Soviet Federative Socialist Republic
Height: 7′ 1″
Shoe size: 53

Size 53 feet has got to be a hinderance.

Let me guess. Kupchak thinks having a horrible contract for two years is better than having a horrible contract for one year.

is mozgov a best case longshot scenario for Doral Moore?

I would trade Mozgov for Doral Moore right fucking now.

This is honestly one of the worst trades I have ever seen, in any sport.
