The religious right's hypocrisy now on full display

LOL, I read the statement in the article. Word is the pool boy is gay, which could be what the Falwells are trying to cover up. At any rate, if Jerry can't return to lead Liberty U., it sounds as if he and his wife would be great material for a reality-tv series along the lines of Chrisley Knows Best or Evangelicals Go Wild. Daddy would no doubt be so proud that his son is turning out to be another Jimmy Swaggart or Jim Bakker.

LOL. Looks like this story (and Reuters is about as legit as it gets anymore for the news media) is what Falwell was trying to get ahead of with his "confessional" to the Washington Examiner over the weekend. What total and utter frauds and hypocrites he and his wife are.

So is there dirt on Franklin too, or is he just a crazy person?

So, at Liberty the following rule applies:

“Sexual relations outside of a biblically ordained marriage between a natural-born man and a natural born woman are not permissible,”

There is a caveat, however, if you are tagging the University President's wife while the Pres watches as that is considered within a biblically ordained marriage.

Maybe Giancarlo was a test tube baby. It’s all good then.

Evangelicals: “It’s Adam and Eve, not Adam and Steve.”

Falwells: “Why not Eve and Steve while Adam watches?”

come on now, nothing wrong with batting clean up.

there is no way he did not participate in some way. None. That was also not their first run in with... an alternative lifestyle.

Couldn't have happened to a nicer guy or family, imo. The Falwells have been a blight on American Christianity ever since the elder Jerry formed the "Moral Majority" in the late 70s and helped the fundamentalist takeover of the Southern Baptist Convention in 1979, pushing out any moderates in a pretty ruthless purge of all Southern Baptist seminaries (I had friends who were attending these schools in the late 80s and got caught up in the chaos), organizations, publications, and so on. It was the elder Falwell who also allied himself, his movement, and his new university with right-wing pols from Reagan to Jesse Helms. The elder Falwell became one of the leading opponents of gay rights and gay marriage, saying that "gay folks would just as soon kill you as look at you" and "this vile and satanic system will someday be utterly annihilated and there will be a celebration in heaven." He was also a prominent promoter of the whole "traditional family values" line, blamed the 9/11 attacks on "the paganists, abortionists, feminists, and the gays and lesbians...I point my finger in their face and say "you helped this to happen", and lots of other crap.

His son continued all that and reaped handsome financial rewards and political power and influence in the GOP, as well as adding Muslims to the Falwell hate list, all while apparently living a private lifestyle that any Sixties Swinger would have admired, and which his father's Moral Majority was expressly formed to oppose and condemn. I'll admit to having a sense of schadenfreude with this one.

Liberty U's Board of Trustees issued a pretty remarkable statement tonight - remarkable in the candor and wording of the statement. Basically, they flatly state that the Trustees did ask Falwell for his resignation today, that he agreed to tender his resignation, but when the news got out to the media he then withdrew the resignation and ordered his attorneys not to submit it. However, the statement goes on to say that the Trustees are going ahead with their planned meeting tomorrow, and they make it pretty clear that they are going to remove Falwell as president whether he voluntarily agrees to go or not. This could certainly get interesting.

Acting President Jerry Prevo said, “I call upon the University community and supporters to be in prayer for the University and for all its leadership, past, present and future, as we walk with the Lord through this stormy time of transition.”

Good luck with that...
