The religious right's hypocrisy now on full display

"Former state Sen. Ralph Shortey, a Republican, had been accused of offering to pay a 17-year-old boy for sexual "stuff" earlier this year. Federal prosecutors will drop three additional child pornography charges against him in exchange for his guilty plea."

Nice to have a lawyer who can get the kiddie porn charges dropped.

Too bad for that honorable gentleman that he wasn’t courting a 17 year old female.

This from Billy Graham's son

Did it?

Billy was pretty heavily involved with Nixon and Reagan. He was definitely political.

My recollection is that Billy seemed to pretty carefully guard against political expressions or partisanship for the most part. In favor of a fairly continuous expression of a gospel emphasizing repentance and personal faith in Jesus. I do seem to recall that it would occasionally become known (typically by some private communication that became public) which candidate he was favoring. He was, I think, much more guarded about this sort of thing than Falwell. Or that we see today in Franklin and Falwell Jr.

He was often seen as a counselor to presidents of both parties, iirc.

In public, you’re right. He didn’t exactly sound great on Nixon’s tapes. Though Franklin is more of a dirtbag.

I could have sworn that Franklin Graham was alive for the Carter administration, but I guess not.

Regardless, you are either a complete fucking idiot or essentially evil if you are willing to peddle this bullshit about Donald Trump.

This from Billy Graham's son

"Rev. Franklin Graham will now lead us in prayer. Reverend?"

"Dear Lord, we would like to pray for our modern Messiah, President Donald J. Trump. Lord, please bless this man who has done so much for rich preachers like myself. His tax cuts alone are going to save me a fortune. I'm thinking of getting into the private, for-profit Christian school business thanks to his generosity in supporting such enterprises. Why, I'll get tax breaks for my private jet down at Wilkesboro's airport! Yes, oh Lord, your servant Donald has served me - I mean us Christians - so well. We love the way he attacks his enemies - the poor, minorities, disabled people, women, parents who have lost a child in military service - you know, all the people that your son Jesus hated. And, we know that Jesus would have approved of the crude and vulgar way he shows off his money and material things, displays his vanity and ego at every opportunity, and divides people so that they turn on one another. The fact that he doesn't seem to understand the Bible, or that he's broken most of the Ten Commandments at every opportunity, or that he's on his third trophy wife, is something we're sure you'll understand, Heavenly Father, because he's helping to make people like me richer and richer. And, we hope and pray that you'll send that fine man Roy Moore down in Alabama to the Senate to support him, dear Jesus, because even if he did molest teen girls we don't care. We need that vote in the Senate to make sure the final version of that tax bill passes, cut welfare programs for the needy, and try to roll back gay and transgender rights. Because, you know, those perverts might try to assault underage girls in restrooms, the same way Mr. Moore did as an assistant DA. In all these things we pray, Amen."

The government in America is the people. Why do these assholes always refer to “the government” like it is a monarchy or a room full of computers working in an alien language we can’t control?

Which Jesus?

The one in Matthew 19, Mark 10, and Luke 18. You can debate the severity of what Jesus was talking about here, but I’m pretty sure you won’t find this tax reform bill supported by THAT Jesus.
