The Official Loyola Chicago Thread! KRUTWIG!

Illini great Brandon Paul was waived by San Antonio today after averaging 2.3 ppg, 1.1 rpg, and 0.6 apg last year. That leaves Myers Leonard as the last remaining Illinois player in the NBA.
Who? And who?

Wow, Meyers Leonard was a lottery pick (#11) in 2012. I honestly don't remember that name. At all.

Probably because he was a classic Wake-type success - a la John Collins, he had a break out soph year and left when he became lottery bound due to potential - he's a big with a good shot and mobile. Somehow, that has never resulted in much in the NBA though.

Kawai’s cousin and just couldn’t escape his shadow

Well, Illinois sits at 2-7 right now. Then again, they've played 7 top 100 teams, while Wake has played...0.

They played tOSU last night and Keyshawn beat Ayo 18-5. A pretty good drubbing as the Buckeyes added another L to the Fighting ILLLLLLini!

Signed #32 Kofi Cockburn... Big man. 6'10", 285lbs from Oak Hill.

Chose Illinois over Pitt & UConn.

At that time, most assumed Crawford was coming back, and Ayo would not be the starter as a freshman. If Ayo knew Crawford was not back, would have that made a difference, or were we never going too get him out of Illinois anyway?

Perhaps Crawford's presence mattered, but we were ultimately unable to convince him to come to Wake. Unless you are recruiting at Duke or Kentucky, there is usually a starter in the positions that you are recruiting. Most elite high school recruits aren't scared of competition, so I'm not sure that had much impact on this situation. Ayo could have started at 1 or 2 for us given his length and versatility.

He would have started. Chaundee, Hoard, and Moore would have been the frontcourt.
