During the 2016-2017 season, Danny Manning coached a roster led by his own recruits and took the Deacs back to the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2010. In 2017-2018, however, the Deacs took a massive step back, posting a 11-20 record and lost Bryant Crawford, Doral Moore, Samuel Japhet-Mathias, Donovan Mitchell, Richard Washington, and Keyshawn Woods in the process.

Wake’s freshmen – top-40 SG Chaundee Brown, 4-star PF/C Olivier Sarr, and 3-star wing Timmel "Melo" Eggleston – played like freshmen (and Eggleston transferred), but their futures appear to be bright. The same goes for current freshmen 5-star SF Jaylen Hoard, 4-star SF Isaiah Mucius, and 3-star guards Sharone Wright, Jr. and Mike Wynn. (4-star PG Jamie Lewis has already transferred.)

While Wake cannot stop losing players to transfer, Hoard (#19 RSCI) is the highest ranked Deac recruit in a decade and a roster with Hoard (#19), Brown (#35), Mucius (#92) is the most top-heavily talented Wake team since Dino Gaudio lost in the Round of 32 in 2010.

While Danny Manning has proven to be incapable of winning at Wake, there is a lot of talent on this roster that should create a nice environment for a new coach (assuming Manning’s time at Wake ends in March).

The Class of 2019

While 2019 recruiting efforts started off slowly, the staff received a commitment from 4-star small forward Ismael Massoud, 3-star point guard Jahcobi Neath, 3-star power forward Ody Oguama, and 3-star center Charles “C.J.” Coleman, Jr..

-Massoud is rated a 4-star prospect on Rivals (#27 PF, #122 overall), 247 (#29 SF, #111 overall), and ESPN (#29 SF).
-Massoud chose Wake over offers from Florida State, Georgia, Penn State, Georgia Tech, Texas Tech, Auburn, Illinois, Harvard, Creighton, Xavier, Rutgers, Saint Louis, St. Bonaventure, Iona, Hofstra, Monmouth, Stony Brook, and Yale.

- Neath is rated a 3-star prospect on 247 (#21 PG, #206 overall) and Rivals (unranked), and is currently unrated on ESPN.
-Neath chose Wake over offers from New Mexico, UCF, San Francisco, Western Kentucky, Canisius, UTSA, UTEP, St. Bonaventure, and Tulane.

Ody Oguama is a 3-star prospect on Rivals (#49 PF), a 2-star prospect on 247 (#78 PF, #413 overall), and is currently unrated on ESPN.
-Oguama chose Wake over offers from Massachusetts, Quinnipiac, Florida International, Radford, New Hampshire, Coppin State, Gardner-Webb, Winthrop, Norfolk State, Lafayette, UNC Asheville, North Carolina Central, and Coastal Carolina.

Charles Coleman, Jr. is a 3-star prospect on Rivals (#35 C) and ESPN (#42 C), and is currently unrated on 247.
-Coleman chose Wake over offers from Oklahoma, Louisiana State, Connecticut, Nevada, UNLV, Massachusetts, South Florida, DePaul, East Carolina, Boston University, Stony Brook, Iona, Rider, Columbia, and Quinnipiac.

Charlotte transfer Andrien White , a 6’3 senior with one remaining year of eligibility, will also suit up for the Deacs during the 2019-2020 season.

-White averaged 15.0 points, 4.8 rebounds, 1.2 assists, and 1.7 steals per game as a junior. He shot 52.6% 2FG, 32.3% 3FG, and 80.0% FT while turning the ball over 1.9 times per game. He is a career 37.9% three point shooter.
-Charlotte’s record with White was 33-59. Supposedly, he is close with 2018 SF commit Mike Wynn.

Former 2018 3-star PF/C Christian Lorng failed to qualify for the 2018-2019 season, but appears to have maintained his verbal commitment at Wake. He starts his collegiate career at Chipola College.

-Lorng is rated a 3-star prospect on ESPN (#55 C) and 247 (#254 overall, #55 PF), and is unranked on Rivals.
-Lorng chose Wake over offers from Creighton, Arkansas, Baylor, Tennessee, Oklahoma State, Missouri, Houston, South Florida, UAB, and Middle Tennessee.

Wake’s freshmen – top-40 SG Chaundee Brown, 4-star PF/C Olivier Sarr, and 3-star wing Timmel "Melo" Eggleston – played like freshmen, but their future and (possibly) the future of the program appear to be bright.

The Class of 2018:

Building on an impressive Class of 2017, Manning and his staff added four recruits in the Class of 2018: Top-25 SF Jaylen Hoard (2018), Top-75 SF Isaiah "Zeke" Mucius (2017), 4-star PG Jamie Lewis, 3-star PG/SG Sharone Wright, Jr., and 3-star SF Mike Wynn.

While Wake lost a lot of players to transfer, Hoard (#19 RSCI) is the highest ranked Deac recruit in a decade and a roster with Hoard (#19), Brown (#35), Mucius (#92) is the most top-heavily talented Wake team since Dino Gaudio lost in the Round of 32 in 2010.

-Hoard is rated a 5-star prospect ESPN (#20 overall, #6 SF), and a 4-star prospect on Rivals (#30 overall, #8 SF) and 247 (#33 overall, #7 SF).
-Hoard chose Wake over offers from Kansas, Florida, Maryland, Oklahoma State, North Carolina State, USC, Providence, Washington, and California.

-Mucius is rated a 4-star prospect on ESPN (#60 overall, #17 SF), Rivals (#93 overall, #24 SF), and 247 (#98 overall, #14 SF)
-Mucius chose Wake over offers from Xavier, Connecticut, Oregon, Minnesota, Seton Hall, St. John's, Louisiana State, Temple, Rutgers, Penn State, Saint Joseph's, Massachusetts, and Saint Louis.

-Lewis is rated a 4-star prospect on ESPN (#33 PG) and Rivals (NR), and a 3-star prospect on 247 (#227 overall, #39 PG)
-Lewis chose Wake over offers from North Carolina State, Kansas, Florida, Baylor, Virginia, Georgia Tech, Iowa State, Connecticut, California, Missouri, Georgia, and Tulane.

-Wright is rated a 4-star prospect on ESPN (#29 SG) and a 3-star prospect on Rivals (NR) and 247 (#49 PG, #278 overall).
-Wright chose Wake over offers from Florida State, Arkansas, Memphis, South Carolina, Clemson, Kansas State, Georgia, Texas Tech, Georgia Tech, VCU, Auburn, UCF, Charlotte, Duquesne, Old Dominion, East Carolina, and Coastal Carolina.

-Wynn is rated a 3-star prospect ESPN (#76 SF), Rivals (UR) and 247 (#410 overall, #93 SF).
-Wynn chose Wake over offers from South Florida, Wichita State, Mississippi, and East Carolina. Before committing to Wake, Wynn had committed to East Carolina.

While still technically committed to Wake, Lorng will be enrolling at Chipola College (JC) during the 2018-2019 season. Whether he ultimately suits up for the Deacs remains to be seen.

Wake also added graduate transfers, 6’10 C Ikenna Smart from University at Buffalo and 6’3 SG Torry Johnson from Northern Arizona. 6’3 junior combo-guard Andrien White transferred to Wake from Charlotte. White will sit out during the 2018-2019 season.

-Smart averaged 3.6 points, 3.5 rebounds, and 2.5 fouls in 12.2 minutes per game as a junior. He shot 67.7% 2FG and 48.3% FT while blocking 0.4 shots per game.
-The Bulls made the NCAA Tournament in two of Smart’s three seasons at Buffalo.

-Johnson averaged 11.5 points and 2.2 rebounds, 1.6 assists, and 1.1 steals in 26.9 minutes per game as a junior. He shot 40% 2FG, 32.2% 3FG, and 77.4% FT while turning the ball over 2.6 times per game.
-NAU’s record with Johnson was 10-52. He may have an extra year of eligibility remaining. He shares an alma mater with former 2018 recruit Ayo Dosunmu.

Former 2018 3-star PF/C Christian Lorng failed to qualify, but has maintained his verbal commitment and will start his collegiate career at Chipola College.

The Class of 2019

While 2019 recruiting efforts started off slowly, the staff received a commitment from 4-star small forward Ismael Massoud and unrated power forward Ody Oguama.

-Massoud is rated a 4-star prospect on Rivals (#25 PF, #102 overall), 247 (#28 SF, #103 overall), and ESPN (#27 SF).
-Massoud chose Wake over offers from Florida State, Georgia, Penn State, Georgia Tech, Texas Tech, Auburn, Illinois, Harvard, Creighton, Xavier, Rutgers, Saint Louis, St. Bonaventure, Iona, Hofstra, Monmouth, Stony Brook, and Yale.

Ody Oguama is currently unrated and unranked on all recruiting sites.
-Oguama chose Wake over offers from Massachusetts, Quinnipiac, Florida International, Radford, New Hampshire, Coppin State, Gardner-Webb, Winthrop, Norfolk State, Lafayette, UNC Asheville, North Carolina Central, and Coastal Carolina.

I'm working on it, RJ. You're right. It'll take me a little bit to get this thing up and running.

Jalen Lecque, 2019/18? PG
http://d1vision.com/jalen-lecque-visit/

According to 247Sports, Lecque is ranked as the No. 31 overall player in the Class of 2019 and the No. 2 combo guard. Originally in the Class of 2018, Lecque reclassified in April, but after a strong summer on the Nike EYBL Circuit with Southern Stampede, speculation arose about him possibly moving back up to the 2018 class. “I would have to discuss with my coaches and parents about that,” said Lecque about a possible reclassification. “I would have to know that it would benefit me in the long run.”

Lecque also spoke Friday about the schools working the hardest for his recruitment, naming Kansas, Wake Forest, and Maryland among the schools working hardest for his recruitment. “I like Wake Forest because of the great coaches they have,” he said. “It’s a great environment. I haven’t visited yet but I want to take a visit there.”

Although he’s only a junior, Lecque has discussed the possibility of cutting his list down in the near future. “I’ll probably cut it down before AAU season or during it,” he said. “I’m not sure how many I’d cut it down to. I’d have to talk to my parents about that. In terms of committing, It would most likely come after the AAU season, during my senior year. It depends on how my game progresses.”

It's good that many of early choices on Harris tape were about D.

If Lecque has the classes to reclassify to '18, Dotson committing to Kansas would be a big help. It would be even better to let him decide after we see what happens with Bryant's season. Lecque could be slipped onto our squad in April.

Even with Bryant leaving, having Brandon, Chaundee, Olivier, Doral and Sam back, should be enticing.

Let's keep the momentum going! Wake Forest has thrived as a program when we landed kids ranked 25-100ish. The 2018 class was was a great one, and landed multiple kids of that caliber. Here's to Manning and company bringing in multiple guys in that range in 2019. Manning built on Chaundee and Sarr with the 2018 class - let's keep getting great depth.

I like the look of the Harris kid. Solid build for a high school guard. Quick hands. Jumper mechanics are solid, but will need to work on getting his hands higher to create more space to get the shot off at the next level--he definitely still pushes it a little bit.

I like Harris, and hope he's the 2019 PG that sportsnut was referencing a month or two ago.

I wonder if he knows Crawford on a personal level, since they're both from the DC area.

They probably have met multiple times. Harris plays in the same conference that Crawford did (one of the best ones in the nation) and the same AAU program.
