BBall Recruiting Thread 2k19 - Charles Coleman de-commits to Wake. :(

Sometimes you just don't know what you don't know. The "unknown unknown"

What I'm saying is IF the school LETS him out. Not if the kid wants to change his mind.

I understand. I can just also understand coaches/schools not wanting to be in the position of telling that kid they aren't going to approve his backing out of the commitment in order to go somewhere else. It is a bad look for the school to get in the way of a kid doing something he feels is best for his future.

Charles Bassey committed to Western Kentucky today. Not only did he commit he also reclassified to 2018 and will join them next year. Was #3 in 2019 and we had offered although he had been linked to Western Kentucky for a while now. Reading the quotes from the commitment are quite funny.

“Relationship with the coaches, good fans, and a good atmosphere,” said Bassey. “I want a good school with good education.” (What? Its effin' Western Kentucky! Good school? lol Good education? lol Fanbase? Atmosphere? I can't believe they have anything special there. This kid was sold a bill of goods.)

Wonder if he will do the Mitchell Robinson special and leave school before the season starts? The amount of bad decisions these 5-stars make, it has to be all the sketchy individuals that get involved in recruiting that have a financial interest in the outcome.

The first second I saw his photo, I thought oh geez we are recruiting a 1 armed hoopster

No 4* (or any other number of stars) basketball recruits visited yesterday according to one of my contacts

Was somebody supposed to visit?

Isn't Manning coaching in the FIBA Championships in Canada?

Would seem like a weird time to host recruits, but, then again, maybe not.

I'm hoping Manning eventually wants to win, and recognizes his weakness in that area, and shores it up. But that may be hoping too much.

You act as though staffs are never constructed this way. Our situation is a prime example of when it is called for. Coaches try to build teams with different skill sets - stars, shooters, rebounders, defensive specialists, etc. I wish DM built his coaching staff with the same philosophy.

I was hoping the one of the assistants would get a promotion out of Wake this past spring. All of the guys on Manning's staff are relative young and/or inexperienced as coaches. If one had gotten a HC job somewhere, Danny could have brought in an older experienced guy who has been at schools that aren't blue bloods. And has a better feel for situational substitutions, creating favorable matchups for your team etc. At Kansas, Self created favorable matchups just by putting his team on the floor. Somebody with a career resume that looks like Jerry Wainwrights - 8 college coaching jobs, including three head coaching stints, including one at a P6 school.

He could have brought in a new coach simply by firing one of the assistants. Simple.

Danny is unlikely to fire any of his assistants. Which one would he fire?
Chill? Not if he wants to survive at Wake.
Woodberry? Danny and Woodberry have been together since Kansas. This is their third school together.
Jones? Just hired him. Connection to AAU programs.

We're still on this "bring in a more experienced guy to run the game" fantasy? How about we just bring in a capable head coach?

We have to live in fantasy. What choice do we have? Reality seems to point to Danny remaining here for awhile.
