UCLA bball players arrested in China for shoplifting

WGAF ? This is much more interesting.
You say that, but a basketball team losing their best freshman to chinese prison just days befire the season starts is a very interesting storyline.

Exactly. The team ? They're fucked. Who cares though because it's a west coast team.

They got released on bail, definitely seems like the Hangzhou Police/Chinese gov't officials are starting to bow to pressure and will end up giving them some symbolic punishment without any actual jail time. Probably a moderate fine and publicizing their stupidity. But they'll be forced to miss at least the one game with possibly more unless the judicial system really expedites the process. Otherwise they'll be in China for a few weeks or so at a minimum.

Then they'll probably face a UCLA punishment as well unless the school chooses to use the Chinese "hotel" house-arrest & those missed games as punishment.

Ball, Riley and Hill were released around 4 a.m. Wednesday and were staying at a luxury hotel in Hangzhou along with a UCLA representative, according to a source. They are being required by Hangzhou police to remain at the hotel until the legal process is over, the source said.

Alford rejoined the rest of UCLA's team in Shanghai on Wednesday morning after the players were released. The coach said the three players involved would not play against Georgia Tech and referred to a previous statement released by the school.

...

Asked if he was worried about LiAngelo, LaVar said, "He'll be fine. He'll be fine. Everybody making it a big deal. It ain't that big of a deal."

LaVar later released a statement about the allegations against LiAngelo: "It is a very unfortunate situation that the Ball family and UCLA has to deal with at this particular time. We will comment shortly."

I assume that the US State Department will have to do a fair amount of work to get them back to the USA, but China probably doesn't want the negativity that would come with an extremely harsh sentence either.

It is so incredibly stupid to steal at pretty much any time, but to shoplift/steal in China is one of the dumbest things that you could possibly do given their stringent laws regarding that type of thing.

F*** that. They need to at least make them come back next summer and perform community service, or something like that.

I'm not sure how this is suppose to teach them any sort of lesson. If UCLA actually cares about educating their adult students, they should suspend these idiots for the entire season.

I'm sure they want to see Americans suffer for this transgression. Isn't our having to deal with Lavar on a daily basis punishment enough?

If Trump can bring these kids home on his visit to China it will do wonders for his popularity among shoplifters.

I think Trump is working on a 3 team trade. Since Kim Jun "Rocket Man" Un is a big Rodman fan, he takes possession of the 3 stooges in return for promises to stop shooting off rockets. In return the Chinese get some credit for having done something constructive, plus they can wash themselves of the negative publicity. And Trump can take credit for the art of the deal

The three UCLA basketball players who were caught shoplifting while on the team trip to China will more than likely have to remain in China for about a month, according to multiple sources.

The three freshman players -- Cody Riley, Jalen Hall and LiAngelo Ball -- were arrested Tuesday by Chinese authorities for shoplifting at the Louis Vuitton store next to the team hotel, the Hyatt Regency, in Hangzshou, a city about 100 miles from Shanghai.

Sources have indicated that the three players have admitted to committing the crime, and reports indicate the three stole sunglasses from the high-end store.

Dont these dumbasses understand that any Louis vuitton goods in China are 99% likely cheap, counterfeit knockoffs, and not worth stealing. Dont they watch 60 Minutes?

Not only that, but did they not think that the Chinese just MIGHT be paying extra particular attention to the 6' 3', 6' 7" and 6' 10" black guys in their store? Bomani had a good piece on it last night.

Kids do stupid things.

Add the UCLA AD to the list of people I'm glad I'm not. The football team has underperformed, its coach has a large buy-out, and now this. But at least he's in SoCal with RJKarl, so he's got that going for him.

Can't wait for Trump to encourage the Chinese to keep them longer

One, it was an actual Louis Vuitton store in a fashionable shopping district, not a dude in an alley.

Two, no, college students don't watch 60 minutes.

If you don’t cause an international incident by stealing some Louis then you ain’t a Big Baller!
