Houston Cougars:

Vegas line is WF+1. KP projects a 2 point Houston win. Houston is 2-1; #65 in KP ratings. They beat McNeese State (#320) by 28 and Liberty (#167) by 2. They lost to Drexel (#208).

Kelvin Sampson (formerly IU head man and NCAA violator) coaches the Cougs for the past 4 years. Last year, Houston went 21-11 (12-6 in the American Athletic Conference), and lost in the NIT first round.

The Cougars play at a very slow tempo (#288). They are the most efficient offense WF has faced (#50), and are particularly strong on the boards (#34 in offensive rebounding) and scoring in the paint (55% on 2 point shots). They are a poor FT shooting team (#276 64%). On defense, Houston fouls a lot (#278 in FTA per FGA), but they defend the 3 well (28.6%), and don't give up many offensive boards (#59 in offensive rebounding %).

Houston is not huge starting: 6-1, 6-3, 6-3, 6-6, 6-8. Their two bigs don't shoot the 3. Their best player is guard Rod Gray from Forest City, NC. He scored 37 against Drexel in an opening round loss shooting 5 for 8 from 3. He had 19 against Liberty yesterday.

Like WF, Houston has struggled in the tournament relative to their pre-season rankings, losing to Drexel and beating Liberty by two. Vegas and KenPom think the game will be close.

FWIW, Mercer is favored by 2.5 over Colorado in tonight's Paradise Jam title game.

How can you tell that from the box score?

Jesus, do you have to act like this about EVERYTHING?

I'm listening to the game. They have gotten lay-ups multiple times after our scores and after inbounds passes.

Wake is hitting shots & not getting stops which should sound familiar. Wilbekin looked good when he was in.

Tied 18-18 at 11:37. All of Houston's points on lay ups or dunks. Deacs slow getting back on D.

How does a jacked 280 player get "out-muscled" for a rebound?

Wake 30-24 at under 8 TO...Houston will be on the line when the game returns.
