HELL FREEZES OVER: MEDIA ADMITS TRUMP’S FIRST YEAR NOT A FLOP

If you listen to the news you hear nothing but the bad. But here is the truth about what has happened this year.

• You will have more money in your paycheck in 2018. Big deal for EVERYONE earning an income, more money in your paycheck in 2018.
• 401K’s and profit sharing plans are growing. Investments are up. The DOW has hit new highs over 100 times since Trump took office.
• Illegal immigration has been nearly stopped. But we still need the congress to build the wall to protect our southern border.
• Drug trafficking is down as a result of having strict border security. Drug traffickers are being convicted.
• Human trafficking is down as result of the same.
• Law Enforcement is once again praised for their work at protecting our communities. God bless law enforcement, it ain’t perfect but it is really dang good for all of us and if the criminals don’t like it, do you even expect them too?
• Radical gangs like MS 13 running rampant in our big cities are being dealt with, the thugs are being thrown in jail and out of our country. There is more safety for middle America because of it.
• Our economy is soaring and positive momentum is growing in spite of the media that likes to minimize it for the sake of attacking Trump.
• Anyone who wants a job can have one and more are on the way.
• ISIS is DEAD because he has bombed the hell out of it and given no quarter for anyone belonging to it. The battle that Obama didn’t want to fight, Trump and General Mattis have waged well and in less than one year that plague to society has nothing much left of it. Thank God for leadership that LEADS!!
• Our military is doing better than ever and now getting the funding it needs but was not getting. America is safer because of our military might.
• Our energy needs and new technology surrounding it are growing daily. We need to have our own energy and not be dependent on the Middle East for any of it.
• The new Tax plan is going to be like adding gas on a fire fueling economic growth. 2018 will blow all years away in the past with what happens.
• Trump is rooting out the cesspool of Washington bureaucrats who do nothing but feather their own nests at taxpayer expense. Believe me, the cesspool, swamp as he calls it, needs a thorough cleaning.

That’s about all that. Last night was historic and this tax cut allows all working Americans to keep more of their own money. Remember, all the money you make is YOURS, not the Governments. You need to have a say in how much they get. Last night America spoke in spite of the weakness of Democrats who refused to do anything to make the lives of working Americans better. Thank God for this new wave of optimism and get prepared for 2018, it will be your best year ever

LOL. Trump celebrated a tax cut bill full of nest feathering by Washington bureaucrats.

Sorry. Clearly you need this for your fragile sensibilities.

He’s doing great, guys, you deserve some praise for your loyalty and support. Great job, tigers!

I will bet you one Canadian dollar that the stock market finishes 2018 lower than 2017.

This one isn’t an accomplishment:

• Our energy needs and new technology surrounding it are growing daily. We need to have our own energy and not be dependent on the Middle East for any of it.

No actually it's really yours and the rest of the Boomer crowd on here.

My generation and my kids' generation will be paying the bill when it comes due. You know that bill that you railed against Obama for over 8 years.

You just added another $1,500,000,000,000 to the tab.

You're welcome.

ETA: I am still a huge proponent of decreasing tax rates as low as humanly possible for both people and corporations. I'd love to see rates down to 10-15% if we could get them there. But you need to do it in a responsible way, especially given our future liabilities.

Meh, if your kid is spending too much money.... the best way to do it isn't to ask him nicely, it's to cut off his allowance and make him adjust. That's why I'm OK with a tax reform bill that helps 90% of the people out there.

There are all sorts of charts which make it look like a gift to the wealthy, but math is math. The top 1% pays 40% of the taxes currently, and gets 20% of the benefits of the reform. The average poor person has their taxes go down 10%, and the average rich person has their taxes go down 5%. Having your tax rate go down from 10% to 9% means more to the poor person than having it go down from 30% to 29% to the rich person. Even if the dollar amount is higher on the latter.

On a dollar basis, of course the rich people's dollar value goes down more, and that's why pretty much all the articles that want to make this out to be the worst bill ever make their charts on a dollar basis, but then there's less rich people than there are poor people. Math and charts can be made to make whatever point someone wants to make. My main reason for taking up the minority opinion on this topic is just how biased and flat out wrong I find most the reporting/takes on the issue to be.

Citing polls that ask "Do you trust the republican led congress to help your tax situation" are of course going to come out at 30% approval. You'd get roughly the same % approval if you swapped the word republican with democrat. Change the question to "Do you support your taxes being reduced by $1,500" then tell me how that polls. I'd guess 90%. Cause pretty much every person aged 22-35 that went to college falls into the latter category, and as I go over it with most of my staff even the 50 year old californian homeowners fall into the catetory as well. It's a smartly designed bill. Surprisingly well designed if you look at it objectively.

I actually don't disagree with most of what you're saying. In fact I would say I pretty much agree with most parts of paragraphs 2, 3 and 4. With the major exception being that it totally ignores the problem of income inequality but that's a discussion for another time.

I'm confused by the first paragraph. Are you trying to say that cutting the allowance the government receives will force it to exercise fiscal restraint?

If so, that's fine (albeit somewhat laughable given our propensity to spend no matter the situation) but that's going to require the country to make hard decisions about some sacred cows that are considered mandatory spending by law..namely Medicaid, Medicare, Social Security, and military spending.

If Boomers want their tax cuts today so they can put that money into savings to cover cuts on social security and Medicare...that's fine by me. I just don't want to hear about how us millenials should be taking tax hikes in 20 years because they don't want their SS or Medicare taken away.

I don't have the answer to your income inequality concern, but I've been reading about it a lot lately. Came across this relatively long article on it yesterday, which from my recollection seemed to mainly point the finger to breaking up the labor unions, but I certainly found it interesting if you have 20 minutes. It argues almost nothing you can do via taxes can solve the inequality issue, although it admits the new bill won't help.

Why Stopping Tax “Reform” Won’t Stop Inequality

https://www.nakedcapitalism.com/2017/12/stopping-tax-reform-wont-stop-inequality.html

I think I found one a few weeks ago which I linked mainly pointed to the unavoidable consequence of globalization, and pointed out that while "inequality" has risen, worldwide poverty has decreased sharply. So is inequality rising, or are dumb american white people just losing their market share?

We don't disagree on the rest of what you say. We probably just need to agree people should work until they're 70 and push back SS and medicare till then. Most people are already working till they're 70 unless they're a govt employee. Then just tie the age to life expectancy (which is now gone down 2 years running).

The best compromise would involve doing the above with also a testosterone admission that we can probably get by being weaker militarily. People aren't going to beat us with better stealth bombers, they'll beat us with hacking our electrical grid or sneaking some anthrax into NYC.

Thanks for the article on income inequality. Will definitely read.

Agree with your last two paragraphs and plans. I would love to see us gradually push back the retirement age. Completely agree on defense as well.

has palma's avatar always had the lyrics at the bottom? I swear I've seen it a few hundred times and I've never noticed them before
